My roommate was talking about a nostalgia book he wanted to read but wasn't able to find. So I decided to ask you people, because for some reason the collective lot of you know about books.

Anyway, he described it as a book having to do with the seasons, but the seasons were embodied as people or something. He said that there were staffs (staves?) that played an important role in the book. He also mentioned something about one season locking up the other in a prison or something. I think Winter locked up Spring-- I dunno.

I'll have to ask him for the details again, but that's all I remember him mentioning.

Any ideas?

PS: Oh yeah, he mentioned the book itself was very "pretty" and "colorful."

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's a kids book from that late 70's or early 80's. I think it's called 'The Four Seasons' or something like that. Winter captures Spring and Father Time gets involved... Brown-based cover, longer than it was tall. And absolutely beautifully illustrated. I can't find it on my shelves though, or on-line. It was one of my favorites.

Got some more details. He said that it's a kid's book, mostly pictures, but it does have a story. He isn't sure how much text there was though.

So I'm having a hard time finding this, but I love scouring the internet for vague things.

Alright, got some more details out of him.

Apparently it's a small children's picture book, the kind that you might read to your kid in 15 minutes. He says it's wonderfuly illustrated though, probably paintings.

It involves the seasons changing, and the seasons are personified as people. Winter doesn't want to give up his time to Spring, so he locks Spring away and keeps the season staff for himself. (He says he thinks the staff changes based on who's holding it or something.)

At some point a kid (or somebody) rescues Spring and that's the end of the book.
