Looks pretty, but the little flash games that the company have done before aren't very clever outside of looking very nice.

When games go for a unique look like this, it would be nice if they did stuff with the art style to further the fun factor (like World of Goo) instead of just having nice art to get attention (like Braid). We'll see how this one turns out.

Yeah... artistic style is not all that is required to make a game "art". It also needs to bring a unique experience to the table, ether through game play mechanics or through a different approach to problems than other games. Shadow of the Colossus is the quintessential example: Using it's art style, minimalistic game play mechanics, epic music, and a highly subjective story, it was able to a display a sense of size and scale that had simply not be done until then and to this day has not been repeated.

I really ought to finally pick up a copy of that....

Let me put it this way: Would you consider Doom to be art? How about Madden? Maybe Dynasty Warriors? The point I was trying to make is that a game can have art in it, but that doesn't necessarily make the entire game a work of art.

I bought a copy of the game two years before I ever had the console. I wanted to play it that badly. I was not disappointed. It plays more like a book than a video game (once through is really all you need to get the whole story, repeat play consists mostly of trying to beat old records), but the unfolding of the story will keep you glued for the duration.

Do yourself a favor...play it on a big TV, with big speakers. It really is awesome. And you get to kill things ranging in size from a Volkswagen Beetle up to The Eiffel Tower.

Going to bump an old thread instead of starting a new one.

The full game was just released and they have a demo up on their site
http://machinarium.net/demo/ I bought it last night and it really is amazing. Everything about it is just fantastic and beautiful and fresh and awesome.

Saw this one at PAX, will probably be getting it this weekend. It just looks too stylin'.

Thanks for reminding me to get the demo. I played all three levels and am totally charmed. Just gotta decide if I can pony up the $20. I'd be willing to bet it's going to pop up on other platforms (iPhone, maybe DS) too.

Mac/PC/Linux? How does it run?
It's a point-and-click; runs great on my Mac. I doubt the system requirements can be too high.
