I spoke too soon on the wonderful EPIC WIN thread laughing at vBulletin sites getting spammed. Seems that the most used protection for all forums - CAPTCHA - has been broken.
Suddenly across the web forums are being slammed with spam registrations. I've taken what steps I can to safeguard, including banning a few email exchanges that have been identified as root spammer emails. But everyone please be watching for new users and report them right away if they even look suspicious.
To new users...Sorry. I know it's not your fault, but if they get their hooks in us it filters out to Google through the SEO and could cause us to be blacklisted. So if we have a question about your account we'll probably suspend you and then let you back on a case-by-case basis.

Is this why I've suddenly got a bunch of Twitter followers as well? I've gotten more than a dozen in the last week, all with zero tweets. Ah, I see from Twitter's blog that they do use reCAPTCHA.

Yup. It's affecting Twitter, Forums all over and a shit-ton of blogs other places that rely on CAPTCHA to filter comments.

Oh yeah, just a little bit... it was all the rage to bitch about it a few months back.
