I am pretty sure I have posted on this topic here before, just wanted to say the creator of this amazing remake has out a couple new updates on his site. this was one of my favorite gameboy games, and I have been following this guys work eagerly for over a year and a half. Check it out!

This is the DS port one, yeah? I'm surprised Nintendo has shut this thing down.

I've always wanted to try metroid 2. I considered picking it up for the gameboy from a small mom-and-pop gaming shop.

Well... just a pop gaming shop now. They got divorced.

No, it will be for pc. He is using Game Maker for the build, and that is for pc game making. And since its been winning awards and shows and was even just in Gamepro, I doubt it will be shut down. (Lord I hope not before it is done)

Do it. it is awesome, even for a gameboy game.

I dunno, I mean Square shut down that Chrono Trigger remake just before it was done, so I'd be surprised if this didn't get the axe.

I hope it doesn't, though, I love Metroid 2 and playing it like this would be super.

I was just about to mention the shut-down of the Chrono Trigger site. I have a feeling the same will happen here.

To be fair, they shut it down because if they didn't, it would appear that they were not protecting their copyright and would therefore lose it to public domain early. Seeing as how they ARE doing stuff with it (such as the re-release with extra content and a bonus ending to tie it into Chrono Cross), I believe they may be planning to continue that story someday soon.

As for this Metroid 2 remake... as long as it does not contain plot elements from the original version (as in, text and such) it may fall into the same territory as the Super Mario Kaizo World games: fair use.

If it doesn't contain the plot (which is almost non-existant anyway) why would they call it a remake instead of somethingelse?

Having similar action, maps, and environments is not the same as copying a script. Because the Metroid series didn't have lots of dialog at the time the game was made, there is a slim chance it could fall under Fair Use.

I wonder how Valve is handling Black Mesa, the Half-Life remake. I know they had them stop calling it Black Mesa Source because of trademark, or something, but apparently they're okay with the remake following the plot of the original game. Of course, Valve could benefit from the mod, since it will be necessary to own a Source game to play it, while I'm going to assume you won't need any Nintendo software or hardware to play the Metroid 2 remake.

The main difference between Black Mesa and the Chrono Trigger remake is one of acknowledgment and support. Valve gave the project it's official support and I believe will be making it available via Steam when it is released. Because Valve has had a hand in the project's development, it wouldn't be seen as not protecting their copyright because their involvement with the project makes it clear they ARE protecting it, by ensuring that the end result meets their expectations.

I just tried downloading the demo-ish thing, and I can't figure out how to progress the from the main menu. I tried hitting space, enter, return, mouseclick, and then just hit every key on the keyboard and couldn't get it to start.
