Releases at the end of the month. The more I see of the game, the more it looks like a classic Metroid game. I'm excited, at least.

There have been some questionable character design and voice acting changes in this game, which makes me a bit worried about how it's going to be taken by the fans of the series.

I just can't muster interest for whatever reason, and I'm usually slavering over each release of Nintendo's main franchises.

Metroid somehow lost me in the move to FPS. I think it's because I've always hated jumping puzzles from a first-person perspective.
It's not an FPS anymore. It's more like the old school games. It actually looks like it plays great.[/QUOTE]

Okay, I'm cautiously optimistic about the new gameplay. I like the idea of the first-person visor view being kind of akin to the "zooming in to look down your rifle sight" feature in other shooters, but keeping 3rd-person for navigation, puzzles, and other combat situations.

I think the gameplay looks good; I'm just wary about the cast of characters. It put me off in Metroid Prime 3 as well, and I still haven't finished that (though I really should). I'm one of those who looks at Samus as solo.

There's other characters in Prime 3 but after the intro area you're still pretty much playing the whole game by yourself. That same great sense of tension and isolation from being alone in the first two games is still there.
So so far the general consensus for Other M seems to be not as good as the Prime series but still pretty damn good. That was what i was sort of expecting to hear, and I can live with that.
Anyone here actually played it yet? Think I might pick it up tomorrow.

The commercial's gameplay looks pretty nice, swapping between the acrobatics and FPS shooting. Adding a cast and voices feels...weird to me, though. Samus has always been portrayed as a badass lone wolf, and I think the games were generally designed around the feeling of isolationism and being that one-(wo)man army.
I can't say 100% how it is since I don't know when I'll get to play it (no Wii), but they've got big shoes to fill after Retro's games.

From what I've seen of the gameplay, plenty of it is in isolation, and most of the soldiers are only really "helping" at the very beginning.

bah...the metroid I am looking forward to is this one!
