PA looks to be doing a week devoted to this game. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the game and what their thoughts are. I played a very stripped down version (building and destroying only, no "crafting" and no zombies) and thought it was somewhat forgettable, but now that I am looking into it deeper, it looks interesting.

Minecraft is like Legos, if you always imagined you were in a fantasy world. If your like me and LOVE Legos, it is crack. Pure, untainted CRACK. it should, quite literally, be called Crackcraft.

I'm enjoying this guy X's videos. His venture into the game is actually quite interesting. I especially enjoyed episode 15 thusfar. It would have been nice to see the X-system as it was built, but seeing the nearly finished product was also a treat in itself.

I am considering getting the game, but I'm unsure what to think concerning the finished product. Right now it looks great, but I guess this single player mode isn't exactly what the point of the game will be.

Bought it, playing it and I've decided I'm a dwarf. I refuse to walk around the world for anything but some wood to make sticks for more picks.... the mountain I'm digging into will bear fruit or I'll hollow it to it's core!

I so want to play this game. But I so don't want to lose what little free time I have left.
But soon. Soooooon.

I have succumbed to the desire and bought it last night. I'm in the process of building my first castle. I planned to be in bed by 11. I was up until a bit after 1 and up at 6. It is as fun as it looks.

When I started, I found a small hill with a giant rock spire sticking out of the top. I used this as my base and began to build and dig. I have started to plant a wooded area in front of it and I have most of the walls constructed (I have been removing the natural grass and stone and replacing it with a cobblestone wall). In digging out my castle I was able to find a larger caveren with large amounts of gravel/coal and even a pocket of iron. Unfortuantly, rather than continuing to dig, I used the iron picks/shovels to work on the castle and now I'm back to using stone picks (but I am mining again, in the search for iron).

Oh, if anyone else is having issues with sound press F3 and S to turn sound on.

I'm still watching X's Adventures, and it strikes me that Minecraft is kind of like Survial Kids crossed with Motherload and put into a 3D world. Awesome... (no, no! I've already got more than a half dozen games I've bought but not played yet! I can't buy more!)

Anyway, as X was talking about bedrock being indestructable, I was thinking (spoilers for Motherload)
good thing it is, Satan is down there if you dig much deeper!

Is there like a point to the game beyond building and hiding from zombies?
Does killing the zombies count as something more? What about building more stuff?

No, as far as I can tell it's all about exploring, finding and building from what you find. Some of the stuff you can build gets pretty complex, since "redstone" in the game can be used to make circuits and switches and stuff, but there's no goal or anything.

This is one game that could really use a peristent world. The coolest part about building stuff is showing it off. Having each player get their own world, but eventually be able to build a portal to other player's worlds would be really cool.

Basically it seems like a (possibly better) version of Love.

Started my adventure today. I was dropped off right next to a huge plateau range. I traversed my way to the top and made my temporary shelter. After creating my basic tools, I proceeded to a side of the plateau that I noticed was mostly stone and began my mining operations. Lots of coal so far, but not much else. We'll see what else I find as I dig further into the dark abyss.

Had a rough night last night. I did not realize that your stuff has a rot timer on it. Lost all my iron tools, about 25 unprocessed blocks of iron, a bunch of leather and other stuff when I got jumped in a cave and ended up respawning at night (knew right where I died, but took me about 10 minutes and three deaths to get back there). I've found a couple caves, and I have been working to network them all together and then tie them into my main carven under my castle, but it is slow going and the iron is sparse.

Was creating my dwarven castle front when I was seized by a creeper and 2 zombies (I have the game on hard difficulty). I was killed almost instantly and what's worse is that since it was my first death, I had never traveled from the spawn point to my home.

I lost my home. I had created a full suit of Iron armor, an Iron sword, and about 13hours of digging and clearing up my labyrinth. Did I quit?

Nope I began rebuilding a huge castle style home into the side of a large mountain near the spawn point. Oh am I the only one with a SNOW world? I haven't seen any videos yet that have it and it threw me for a loop when I first spawned.

I know there is a chartographer program that will read your file and show you what has been generated so far (may be helpfull in finding your wayward castle).

I have seen a couple videos with Snow and the mincraft wiki indicates that you can use it to make snowballs and blocks of ice (which can be used to store snowballs).

So apparently Notch (the guy who is developing the game) announced yesterday on his twitter that the game has sold 200,000 copies (at $13 a copy, thats 2.6 million dollars). Since the credits for the game it about 4 people long, this should be a good payday for them. :)

I tried using the program but it was of little use. I am content with my new home though, if I ever find the old one, it'll be nice.

Bought this the other day after watching and getting hooked on X's videos. I started out one game but wasn't really happy with the way things were turning out so started a new one today. The area that I began in had a series of tunnels and I had built my initial refuge there only to later discover an area akin to the hallelujah mountains in Avatar just a bit further to the west. Eventually made it to the top and I now have a nice fort built up there with a fairly large enclosed stairwell leading up to it. I've recently started building sky bridges to connect to the other floating mountains and to continue my expansion. Later I plan on hollowing out most of the floating mountains.

Interesting, I bet that blocky look strikes several nostalgic cords for many players and it is a interesting concept. But does monster only come out at night?? sounds it can be a little boring. And does resources re-spawn again after a time?

What I've learned from watching X's videos:

- Enemies spawn wherever there is dark. That means the overworld during the night, but in caves anytime (if there aren't torches). Zombies and skeletons catch fire in sunlight, but spiders and creepers that spawned at night continue to roam during the day.

- Trees and other plants can be grown, and water and magma are semi-infinite. The rest is finite, I think. The world is huge, though. Many resources are semi-reusable if not destroyed in some way, so it'd take a long time playing to deplete all the resources within easy travel, and even longer to deplete everything within just a little more travel.

I actually though on a idea on how to justify these resources could be re-grown... Elemental Monsters, much like the rest, they spawn at night, the day light don't actually kil them, but rather they turn in "terrain" blocks of stone/dirt/iron/etc. They wouldn't be that common thought, and killing they at night might give some bonus resource or special resource.

I think the thing that truly makes this game phenomenal is the LACK of complication. It's simple, but that's exactly what it needs to be. I find myself having to DRAG myself away from it to get my daily WoW things done, the entire time wishing I was delving deeper into my castle labyrinth, hoping to hit gold and red stone and perhaps one day, the fabled diamond.....

Perfect uniform stairwell right now, going about 400 tiles diagonal.... and counting....

Have been saving all the cobblestone I've been removing from my mine, polishing them up, and using them to make my castle above the clouds. Cobblestone I don't polish I've used to create roads between my castle-in-progress, my mine, and my current temporary dwelling. And I've made sure to line my road with torches as well as set up stones with torches all over the top of my plateau range to keep monster spawns to a minimum. I'll try to take screenshots when I get my own little Machu Picchu more completed.

again, screenshots?

Here's what I have so far from a few different angles minus the large set of stairs, forgot to grab pictures of that.

Not exactly the prettiest but I've yet to be besieged so I'm happy with it.

Meant to add that building the bridge has taken alot of time cause I keep falling off. Also, when I was speluking in a cave near my sky fortress I found an old ruin. Inside was a chest and I threw down a couple of torches and grabbed it. Inside I found a saddle, some iron, wheat which I made bread with and some other things. Then the zombies showed up.

Things have been happening too fast for screenshots but I will upload soon enough:

So anyway, as I was digging my massive staircase into the unknown, I come across the sound of water. Not wanting to break my uniform perfect staircase I think of how to proceed. My curiosity gets the better of me and I begin a mining shaft. Sure enough I strike an underground river that unbeknowgst to me at the time, unfolded into a 30 room sized cavern. Through trial and tribulation, much Iron and Gold was found. I continued exploring the caves, randomly encountering a Skeleton or Zombie looking to upset my exploring. Then.... I struck lava.

I became excited as I realized that this could mean I'm closing in on more rare ore types, so I begin digging around the lava rivers and yet again, I strike amazement. A huge cavern underneath the one I had recently unearthed opened itself up to me. Lava flow rivers, huge caverns, tons of Iron and Gold...... and around the bed..... RED ORE!

Excitedly I began collecting, hearing the sound of skeletons and zombies I quickly equipped my weapons and began clearing out the area and placing torches.... what I wasn't ready for was.....

I think I'm going to need a bow and arrow set now....

I went back down after crafting the bow and arrows, shot them.... and they split into 3s. Killing the smaller versions I gained green slime bubbles. Not sure what to do with them yet.

Once I had cleared them though, I turned down the hallway and was greeted by a slime 6x that size.... practically eating up the cavern hallway.... I took a screenshot but it didn't save unfortunately.
