Not bad. Not quite as awesome as the trailer, which was pretty freakin' awesome, but definitely worth it for a youtube video series.

YES! They got the greenlight!

ALOT of truth to series. The headbutt, the eye, the accents being right, the partner kill etc.

I'm also loving their choice of actors. Big enough names that they really do a good job, not big enough that you can't see their character.

Hmm, not too big a fan of Jeri Ryan as Sonya, but it's definitely awesome nonetheless.

The script is terrible.

I don't think the action scenes flowed very well either. But I was a little distracted the day I watched it. I'm mostly watching to see who Ercia Cerra is going to be playing.

It's a "Made for Youtube" series. It's fantastic considering the budget they must be working on. I've seen much bigger budget stuff come out not even a quarter as well done as this is.

Episode two dropped today. I'm liking it.

They're a little too fond of slo-mo. The pacing for that fight and the grenade bit was...strange, thanks to things constantly slowing down. Still enjoyed it, though.

Episode three came out today:

Overall - a little weird, but still good. This series is direct-to-youtube, which shows, but it is still pretty entertaining. Then again, I own Smokin' Aces 2: Assassin's Ball, so I might not be the best judge here. Still, beats the shit out of Mortal Kombat Annihilation by just about any metric.

Trivial Factoids:
  • Mortal Kombat: Legacy creator Kevin Tacharoen is following in his big sister's footsteps by creating a web series. His sister, Maurissa, was one of the four co-writers of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
  • Tahmoh Peniket, who plays Kurtis Stryker in MK:L, was a regular on the Joss Whedon program Dollhouse. Joss' sister-in-law, the aforementioned Maurissa Tacharoen, wrote several episodes of that shows and played a bit part as one of the Dolls in few episodes.
  • Matt Mullins, who plays Johnny Cage, played Kamen Rider Wing Knight on the recent CW-4Kids one season wonder Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. I can't help but think the references to Johnny Cage having been a Power Ranger are related to that. For those not in the know, Kamen Rider and Power Rangers are both Japanese shows of Tokusatsu variety.

Lack of Ninja Mime disappointing...

The first two episodes were awesome! Yeah, the script is cheesy, but the movies were cheesy and awful too, so I don't care. I watched to see MK characters and fighting and that's what I got! ;) I *squee'd* when they talked about Jax's arms and you got to see Kano get his eye.
Episode 3.. meh. It's Johnny Cage. Ho hum.
Episode 4, I loved the styling of the way the story was told. I wish there had been more fight scenes and I also wish Baraka didn't look so ... stupid...

Definitely enjoying it though and I can't wait until they're all together!

Poor Johnny...

But i think the last 2 eps where way too exposition heavy... and the supernatural stuff was way too obvious... the end of the Johnny Cage one was perfect in that regard.

The androids/cyborgs are pretty latest game models accurate too...

I think the pseudo-realistic episodes are definitely the best ones (the Raiden one, especially). The ones where they play the mythology completely straight (the Kitana ones and the Sub-Zero/Scorpion ones) are pretty weak.

Topless Robot reports that the go-ahead has been given for a new Mortal Kombat movie.

Oh dear... so is he going to go for the gritty Rebirth style or the more fantasy Legacy style?

I'm okay with both, though. This sounds like my kind of movie.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy, season 2 released. All 10 episodes on Youtube.

I've only watched the first episode so far. I didn't realize who that character is until halfway through the episode. Interesting direction to take the character, I think.

Just watched the first 8 episodes on my lunch break, some thoughts.

Mileena's hilariously bad at aiming her sai throws.

A bit too many flashbacks to the first series, I think. Were these due to budget issues?

A bit too much exposition, not quite enough fighting.

Scorpion stealing Sub-zero's fatality was a nice touch.

What the hell was up with Sub-zero's costume? He looked like he was wearing football pads.

And what was up with not showing the fight between Hanzo and Sub-zero's younger brother? Are they leaving that open ended for future plotlines?

A bunch of characters from the first series are missing. Hope they return in the future, recast if necessary.

Mileena stealing Johnny Cage's crotch punch, and the subsequent lampshade hanging, was a nice touch.

Casper Van Dien has got playing a whiny little bitch down to an art form.

All in all, not too bad, I'd say it's equal or very slightly worse than the first series. Worth a watch-through, I think, if you're a Mortal Kombat fan.
