In a few weeks, mother's day will be coming around and this time I'll be celebrating it somewhat differently.... with the wife being pregnant and all...


I want her to make her feel special without having to resort to saying things like.


I've been thinking of getting her a bunch of small thoughtful gifts and taking her out to one of her favorite restos.

A few ideas :

- Tee shirt with a custom slogan like, "Baby in the Bun" or what not.
- Maternity PJs & Materity Pillow to help her sleep better.

I'm exited... but don't know where to look and find awesome ideas..... so what better way than to ask some of my favorite HFers to provide me ideas and links?

Is your wife at all nerdy? This will influence any ideas.

My big suggestion, and granted I am not like most women, is for you to not make this all about her being pregnant. I know that's the whole reason you're celebrating Mother's Day, but if you give her gifts she would like regardless of her gestational status (imo) they would be something she could enjoy in the years to come. That said, I like the idea of a charm bracelet. You could start with a baby charm and add to it each year.

Massage and spa gift card.

I know, it may sound cliche, but pregnancy is very hard on the body, particularly near the end, and a massage and spa day can make a world of difference.

And massage places usually offer special massages for pregnant women.

I was even thinking that if she wanted to she could save the massage coupon for after the baby is born. After about a month or two of being at the beck & call of an infant you need to do something for yourself.

She is lightly nerdy. She's the supportive type of wife, will watch anything I watch (except hockey). She prefers sentimental/cute things that make us feel more of a family.

That's a negatory. She has an unlimited amount of massages every year. (work benefits)


Keep them coming you sexy people.

Pandora is one of the more popular brands right now. You might be able to find a different, less expensive option at a local jewelry store.

I will say that maternity pillows are the greatest thing ever, I don't know how much you want to spend, but I do recommend that you get one that is super nice. Even if you hold off on something like that until later, I would say that one cannot really go wrong. If you'd be more inclined to buy a nicer one as a gift than you would buy on a regular basis that you should buy it for the occasion and also add in another sweet gift that will see more use, or just a nice day out that you may not be able to have on a regular basis (a place you wouldn't go on just a normal date with a babysitter)

I don't think so, and I live in conservative Canada.

Everyone I know with babies just pops it out to feed em.

This is a terrific idea.I have 2 friends who are pregnant right now (I won't let them breathe on me), and they've really been appreciating little gifts that are for them and not just baby related stuff.

I've only seen it happen once, but I was in one of my favourite cafes and a woman asked a nursing mother to go to her car. The mother politely declined, and the first woman just walked away, looking offended, shaking her head.

I do have friends who complain about it when they see it, and I jump on them with counterarguments. Christ, I have some really immature friends.[DOUBLEPOST=1366238790][/DOUBLEPOST]

I've literally never seen breastfeeding in public.

When I worked mall security, we saw it all the time. We were SUPPOSED to ask them to head to the provided "nursing rooms." Ask me how many times I did that. Go on.

A good telephoto lens for her camera! Ok that's what I want. But trust me you guys will want to have a decent camera for the plethora of pictures you will end up taking of your bundle of joy.

Actually, in all seriousness, you MIGHT want to invest in an external hard drive, just for the photos. If she's ANYTHING like my wife, you're going to fill that sucker up, REAL quick.

I spent a fortune with Shutterfly when Noah was a baby. Then again, Mr. Wasabi was gone for 6 month and I had promised to send him a picture a day so he wouldn't miss anything. Who can take one picture?!?! It was more like 20 pictures a day. And I couldn't just email them to my mother-in-law because she didn't have an email account (don't get me started). So I had to print the really good ones.
I have an under-the-bed storage container full of pictures of my son. With my daughter I put them on an external HD along with videos we've taken of the kids over the years.

I don't know if your wife would be into it, but maybe set up a professional photo shoot session for the baby bump showing off. If she's not showing enough yet, then plan it for a later date. Also plan a newborn session.

Aww, now I feel bad.

So, how was everyone's Mother's Day?

The few people I've talked to around the globe seem to have one thing in common: they ate way too much. Yours truly included; went to a restaurant with my mom and dad, and we had a sumptuous meal. Bruschettas for starters, fish and pizza dishes for main, tiramisú and chocolate cake for dessert. Fun was had by all.

I called my mom and sent her flowers. I ate eggs for breakfast.

Called my mom and sent her fruit. Called my grandmother and sent her some potted plants.
Went to work as per usual, and handed out flowers to all the women that came in.

I went out and had prime rib for lunch woo. I also made dresses for my mom and MIL, and my kids made some flower pots for them.

Heading over to help cook dinner with my father for my mother. Bought her some lovely hand-carved wooden candle holders with candles carved to look like flowers set inside them.[DOUBLEPOST=1368393920][/DOUBLEPOST]

What an awesome idea

Breakfast in bed for Squidleybits

Got my wife her favorite flowers (Stargazer lilies) along with a Mother-To-Be Hallmark card. She was ecstatic.

Then I showered her with presents!

- A Snoogle! She's been having a lot of problems sleeping and this should help her!
- A cute t-shirt with a pink "My name is BABY'S NAME" name label on the belly.
- A few Yoga pre-natal / post-natal DVDs
- A book about her first year of motherhood.
- Pastries!
- Her favorite meal I make.

It's a nice day.
