Mushy Bees?

Just got a song by Joe Strummer and the Mescalaros called "Bhindi Bhagee" in it the singer meets a New Zealand guy looking for Mushy Bees, this is NOT related to the joke about lions that would eat anything.

So what are Mushy Bees? I found everything else in the song.

I found a YouTube video about a girl eating Mushy Bees. But that doesn't say what it is.

Far as I can tell, its a colloquialism for mashed peas, and it probably does derive from that horrible lion joke.
