New Malware

It looks like those pesky fake antivirus programs are getting smarter. The newest one detects what browser you are running and uses warnings similar to what the browser uses.

New malware detects browser, shows fake malware warning page

Microsoft is warning about a new piece of malware, Rogue:MSIL/Zeven, that auto-detects a user's browser and then imitates the relevant malware warning pages from Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome. The fake warning pages are very similar to the real thing; you have to look closely to realize they aren't the real thing. The ploy is a basic social engineering scheme, but in this case the malware authors are relying on the user's trust in their browser, a tactic that hasn't been seen before.
Here's a SS of the IE warning page.

Just when I got most of the people I know trained not to fall for this stuff, they change it. :mad2:

Spammers and writers of malicious code are the scum of the Earth. Imagine how nice life would be if the only emails we got were the ones we wanted or if we could open any file sent to us without fear?

That's why I never charge for cleaning up peoples computers. People keep telling me I should, and compare it to fixing someones car, but no one is actively trying to break your car just to get you to pay them to fix it. Except maybe those shady repair shops...

With this crap being spread through legitimate websites and ads, it's hard to blame it on bad browsing habits.

ha! I've seen many like that one before. Well, business has been slow over summer. I'll probably be barraged by this one soon.
