New Ubisoft DRM (not AC2)

#1

Rubicon

Since AC2 was cracked early before release even with the new DRM, a dev posted on the Ubisoft forums the following new DRM scheme for upcoming games;

Ubisoft said:
You purchase a $60 subscription and receive an anonymous phone call within the next 24 hours with GPS coordinates. You meet at the coordinates and are blindfolded and put in a van with other players.

You are then transported to an unknown location and forced to strip, then you will be forced to walk through a metal detector and frisked. Anyone looking shady may be subject to a full body cavity search.

After being forced to shower in the presence of a rather burly security guard, you will be moved into a plain white room (still naked) and directed to a chair, which you will be bound to with shackles and a belt.

The game will begin, all under the supervision of no less than 4 security officers armed with next-generation military equipment per single player.

After a certain amount of time, the process will be reversed and you will be dropped off at the coordinates where you began this journey.

A DEV posted this? Good lord I hope he's anonymous, otherwise he could get the boot.

Unless he was being funny and not critical of the DRM. In which case I love it.

That's pretty effin' funny.

I could see a hilarious blogpost from a game journalist "testing" their new DRM. :p

It's only a matter of time before something like this becomes reality.

Not that it'll actually stop piracy, of course. They just want to see naked people.

You know, in a way, I'm kind of glad this never-ending DRM/Hacker faceoff is going on. It means that bored anarchist hackers spend all their time messing with games instead of doing something that might actually do some damage.

Oddly enough, that new DRM they developed that requires internet connections during your entire play experience? Already broken. You can get DRM free versions of the game if you want to pirate it. They've also had their new sub game released on the torrent networks before release. They are claiming it's not a complete version of the game, but then again, they'd claim that anyway just to get people to buy the retail.

It's not odd when 90% of the time that's exactly how it goes...

And the fact that the game was available before it was released should be making them look for leaks instead of wasting money on new DRM...

The only functional DRM is play to play MMORPGs.

or alternatively, you can have free games with Cash shops (which need to verify via account online)

I know plenty of people that started out playing MMORPGs on illegal servers, so not really... constant content updates are the more effective DRM.
