So on 23 May 2012 a new world record was set when Gary Connery became the first man to land a wingsuit without the use of a parachute! The video is incredible!

Upon landing, was he immediately placed in a straitjacket and wheeled off to a mental institution for his certification? Because seriously... that's crazy. Immensely crazy.

Nope, he celebrated with his wife and ground crew. They had Champagne.

Couldn't one bad wind gust have flipped him over-mid air and caused him to splatter?

Probably. But couldn't that happen while parachuting 'normal' style also?
Kudos to his deed, he also took the risk for it.

Yep, in the video you can see the gusts of wind causing him to almost go unstable on several occasions. His ability to fly kept him on track and enabled him to do what many thought was impossible. The news caster for sky news told everyone there would be a 10 second delay for obvious reasons during the live broadcast.

Well, it would've been on the news if it went bad, too. I guess we can be happy his fifteen minutes of fame aren't posthumous.
