Fixed. But Dave? Once I'm given the green light? RELEASE THEKRAKENBUZZARD!
I have a bottle of it sitting on my fridge. Can't I just release it now?I heard back from him (man, he's quick).
He said no biggie about the Facebook post. I'm not going to push my luck, though. Just to stay on the safe side, we'll keep the other thread temporarily nuked for the moment.
But Dave? Once I'm given the green light? RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
Let the derail continue, because this is worth discussing.
The popularity of those books suggests there's something current culture is failing at with a lot of women. Twilight fans are romance starved, Grey fans are sex starved. Feels like something is amiss when the disturbing relationships prominent in those books become desired.
This turn of events isn't a mystery. Modern work practices have basically destroyed personal time and expendable income, so a lot of people don't have the energy or will to be as romantic or sexual as they wish. Combine this with an increasingly insular world view thanks to modern telecommunications and this feeling of isolation and unfulfillment is likely to grow. The current trend in literary books in just a symptom of these changes in culture.
Fifty Shades isn't much better considering not only what this guy does with this girl, but his own past, and how that past was "fixed". All abuse shit. We're talking about works that aren't just about romance. I have no problem with pulp romance. The insidious things about them are that at their core, the message is that women can not be defined without men. That is some straight up self loathing. There's a section in the second book where Bella LITERALLY is unable to function without Edward. She passes out and goes into a coma. The subtext of accepting an abusive relationship is also terrible. Even the relationship with the Jacob character paints women as shallow waifs who will gladly chase after a man who will get her killed over someone who is supportive and always there for her. Quite frankly, I find the whole Twilight thing not just bad writing/movie making, but flat out destructive to its audience.
Wait, Tin purged himself from the boards?Bowielee said:I'll tell you the same thing I told Tin, don't forget us when you're all famous and on Letterman and stuff. (also, don't purge yourself from the boards like he apparently did, it gives me a sad )
It is hard to figure out exactly why then the goodbye post gets deleted along with everything else.Wait, Tin purged himself from the boards?
