Heh. I should have known this would happen when I pre-ordered a DSi XL.

Also, our searches are busted, big time. I came here to start this thread after several 3DS searches.

I just hope it isn't some gimmicky crap. Cause truth be told as much fun as the Wii's motion control and the DS's stylus control can be I often find my self more annoyed at them because all to often it feels like the controls are tacked on as an after thought. And even games that have good stylus controls I still find myself wishing for a more traditional control option (LoZ: PH for example)

That is pretty awesome. I wonder how it will work in terms of control.

I loved PH's controls more than any Zelda game.

That said, you're going to see TONS of gimmicky crap, and if you have to question it, you must've forgotten all the shovelware we've had for the Wii and DS. Really, I owned a DS with one game and a bunch of GBA games for nearly two years before actually buying any more DS games because there was so much garbage floating around in the disguise of games.

I do remember all the gimmicky crap that came out for the Wii and the DS and that is why I am afraid. I know that they are actually starting to make games that use the unique controls wisely and not just a tacked on selling point but neither the Wii or the DS has proven to me that their unique form of controls are better than the standard controls. Now don't get me wrong both the DS and the Wii can be fun (I do own both) but except for a few choice games they don't scream "Better Controls!". And don't even get me started on the PS3's sixaxis motion control crap.

The DS's controls have been used to make games much more accessible. For instance, my girlfriend always found GC games a bit too complicated to play (not that she had many opportunities to try, but still), and has played through PH. Or small things like choosing items in Mario, which expand the controls a little bit without using more buttons than the original games.

(I would agree that PH controls were a bit too simple, but my point is valid all the same)

I agree with this.

My wife LOVES her DS. The stylist actually EXPAND her game collection (she did have some old school games) and made it easier for her to play. I personally do like the touch portion of the DS and it did add some like Castlevania (they could have done better) but hey.. I take what I can get :)

Let me put it politely: I don't give a shit that non-gamers can play Zelda. I want to play Zelda the way I loved to, goddamnit. At the least give us a D-Pad option.

It's been a looong time since I've touched my DS or Wii. Which is kinda sad. 360 just caters better, I guess, even if I have to lose some of my favorite franchises from my time as a wee lad.

I will say that there's no reason the L button couldn't have become a shield block for PH.

But the stylus really eliminated all the Z-targeting nonsense and still allowed for the epic big boss monsters of the 3D generation of Zelda games. I haven't started ST to see if it made any improvements. I can't see how controlling Link is difficult with this thing, and you're given total control of the boomerang, bomb destinations, etc. And drawing on the map is excellent.

But yeah, a D-pad option would be nice for those who wished for it. It's not like you're using that hand in the game now, if I recall correctly.

I wish the new Pokemon allowed for stylus movement of that kind, although it switched the whole menu over to total stylus, so I guess it's be one or the other. I also like being able to drag and drop my units in Fire Emblem and Advance Wars rather than click-clicking each step (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 could've done the same, but instead made you have to tap the stylus twice for each tile movement, which is dumb as hell).

IMO, the stylus controls were 10X more intuitive than the controls than any of Zelda games from 64 on. It's not just "non-gamers" that loved the stylus controls.
