Nintendo's in the middle of a presentation today, and some of the news:

- Super Mario Galaxy 2 is being released May 23
- Metroid: Other M is an August title
- The new Legend of Zelda Wii game is around 300 days away

Considering there's been almost no info about these games, those releases seem absurd.

Galaxy 2 will be good but I'm guessing it's going to be a heaping bowl of more of the same (not a bad thing again). It couldn't possibly have that long of a development cycle so the soonish release date seems plausible. Is Other M the Team Ninja game? In that case, whopee. If it's getting released so quickly I expect it to be as shitty and buggy as Gaiden 2 was. Hooray!

I have no earthly idea about the Zelda game.

Well I am super excited about the new Zelda game despite the lack of details (no big surprise there as I am a huge Zelda fan) as far as the Mario game goes well I have to sadly admit I haven't gotten around to playing the first SMG yet.

Did I say August? I meant June 27. The game is playable today, so everyone should get to see how it is.

When are they going to announce the next-gen system? Wii 3D, anyone?

My friends I think Nintendo has failed to market a suitable console to this current generation.
I know the Wii is marketed towards family gaming but so is the 360 and Playstation 3. I know
they've had a lot of sales but I've believe they've just gone stagnat.

Me personally I would like more fuctionality out of a system that what the Wii now offers. I like
to be able to surf the web, watch movies, etc. The Wii has none of that. I know they want it
affordable but still c'mon.

If I want to play Nintendo games I'll play it on an old good fashioned Gamecube.

The Wii has a web browser, and is getting Netflix streaming soon. With Orb it can even be used to stream media from a PC.

I loved Mario Galaxy. I wouldn't care if nothing new was added to SMG2 as long as it was a whole new set of levels.

I'm wary of Other M because I hate Dead or Alive and felt Ninja Gaiden was too slow in combat and such compared to what I'd expect Metroid to be. Why not just do another Prime? Those have been amazing.

If the new Zelda is actually fun enough to bother finishing, I'm in. Also, NO MORE FUCKING WATER TEMPLES FOR THE LOVE OF CRAP.

There will always be another water temple.

I do I'm just saying that if I want to get the next Nintendo system I want more fuctionality out of it.

The Xbox and PS3 are NOT marketed towards family gaming.

I assumed the 360 was with the Arcade version. So forgive my naivete on that assumption.

But Water Temples are always the funnest dungeons in Zelda games! /sarcasm

PS3 and 360 originally were not design for family concept. It was design for gaming power. Higher processor power and high graphic power are use in those consoles. Nintendo wants to make affordable system and fun for the family. Look at the Nintendo lineup and see how many games are gear toward family play (from 10 to 80) and multiple player. The Wii is selling like hotcakes because it is easy to use and games are simple and fun.

Project Natal is trying to utilize face/hand/body motion control, but it will design more toward "hardcore" gaming.

Look at games that was design for multiplayers. The split screen are not as good (top bottom split) and limit to 2 players (i.e. Xbox 360 L4D1 and L4D2) There are some family game for those systems, but it really was design for 1 to 2 players while Nintendo are going with 1-4 players on the same screen.

They need to come out with VirtualWii-ality.

That was just a way for them to try and get the XBox closer to the Wii cost, otherwise they would lose sales from the people on the fence that were more likely to get the Wii because it saved the money. That does not mean the console itself is marketed towards "Families".

1. Nintendo is far and away the console leader this generation, both portable and home console, including software sales.
2. Microsoft and Sony are NOT marketed as family consoles.
3. Nintendo was #1 in hardware and software sales last month, and had the #1 selling software title in January.
4. You can surf the web on a Wii.
5. Netflix movies are soon available on Wii.
6. Nintendo games are coming out in less than 3 months for Wii, not Gamecube.

That's not to say there aren't drawbacks for the Wii, like the overuse of waggle, the clusterfuck of bad shovelware from third parties, or the lack of HD visuals, and if you want to get on Nintendo for that go for it. They've earned it. However, coming into a thread specifically about the announcement of two big Nintendo games in a few months talking about how Nintendo has failed and stagnated is incredibly obtuse.

Well, I hope they do too. I just want features that are actually missing: digital surround sound, HDMI, HD resolution, hard drive storage, a better online system with a feature-set to match Xbox LIVE, an ongoing offering of Wii game demos, periodic WiiWare & Virtual Console sales, etc.

Nintendo did what they did to keep the cost down and MAKE A PROFIT per unit sales

Does anyone know the real cost of PS3 and 360? I know both systems are sold at a loss in hope to make up the difference in game sales.

For the current generation of systems, yes it would have been too expensive (though I don't think there was an excuse for lack of digital audio). I don't think those features are too much to ask from the next Nintendo console.

True. I mean Nintendo can put in current tech in the future unit, but people will STILL complain since 460 and ps4 would have even NEWER tech in them

Slightly more on topic, I can't wait for Galaxy 2. The first Super Mario Galaxy was pretty much the only reason I bought a Wii... and to be honest, it's still pretty much the only Wii game I own that's worth playing.

Anyhoo, There are plenty of good games coming out this year at retail and on WiiWare. next on my list is Red Steel 2, followed by Bit Trip Runner (WiiWare), then Mario Galaxy 2 and maybe Metroid: Other M. Sonic 4 (WiiWare), most definitely. There should be plenty more revealed at E3.

Uh, you can access the internet, play Gamecube games, get weather reports, buy and play old Nintendo-SNES-N64-SEGA games, stream media on your PC via orb, there are monthly Mii contests and games, Mii channels, a photo suit, soon to get netflix...

what else do you want?

Technically, you can up-convert your 480p to 720 or 1080 using expensive ass AV receivers from Best Buy (like 1200 bucks!).


Anyway...

Nintendo must have read my thoughts because I was considering selling my Wii. I guess I'll be hanging on for SMG2 and Zelda.

I generally get rid of old hardware when I don't need it to run the games anymore. For instance, I got rid of my GB Color and GB Classic when I got my GBA. But then again I usually donate all my old gaming stuff I can't trade in to Get Well Gamers, so at least somebody can get use out of it. It's sort of like Child's Play, but with used gaming stuff instead of money donations. You guys should donate if you have anything you don't want anymore.

Given that all of my gaming is portable these days, I want one of those gigantor DSi things big time. And not just because I don't want to borrow my daughter's pink one anymore.

SMG I will definitely be buying. Loved the first game and really don't care if it's more of the same.

Wary of Metroid... The Metroid Prime series was excellent, gameplay, exploration, atmosphere... just fucking perfect. Team Ninja has VERY big shoes to fill if they want to live up to Retro's Trilogy. I just can't see it being as immersive. In The Prime series you felt like you WERE Samus, right down to the brilliant visor hub display. The new game seems to feel like you're watching a movie about Samus instead.

Agreed, not to mention all the chatting and cutscenes.

I gotta hunt down the Wii Trilogy version at some point of Metroid Prime.

The temptation is growing strong now. Tomorrow I will know what kind of annual bonus I'm getting. Assuming it's not a joke, I might very well have to pick up a Bronze and finally get back to my Metroid/Zelda/Mario roots.

Why would you want your game console to do all that stuff anyway? I want my game console to play games. I can't think of one reason to have a web browser on it (though it does have one).

I have a Wii -- and only a Wii. I'm not sure where this multiple console ownership thing came from. That seems to be purely a current-gen concept. The biggest problem with it is the lack of games. There aren't too many in the first place, and the ones that are out are 90% party game crap that all basically looks and functions the same.

Yea, but some games are console specific like Final Fantasy (I got most of them for my PS systems) I can't play Halo until I get a PC version or 360 (which I use to have until it died)

Before I got a laptop, I used my Wii to surf the web from the recliner in my bedroom. It wasn't perfect, but it worked well enough. If the browser had a real version of Flash, I would have loved to use it to watch Hulu and other online video.

I loves me some Nintendo. Lovin' my Zelda games... and more Pokemon coming in a week and a half.
