heh... interesting after China and U.S. start talking, N Korea wanting to talk about peace. (opinion/guessing) I figure China told N. Korea they are not going to back them up if they keep up these attacks

I saw a documentary on North Korea which stated the lesson they learned from the Iraq war was they would have to have a nuclear weapon to prevent an invasion.

This thread should be titled "North Korea claims they want to talk before making a crazy statement and breaking off negotiations... again!!"

Makes sense, and something similar has been said of the possible iranian nuclear weapons program. At the risk of stating the obvious, when a nation is faced with a military threat from an enemy with superior conventional forces, nuclear weapons become quite attractive for the deterrence value. And part of the lesson, if any, from the Iraq war might have been that not possessing WMDs is no guarantee against a pre-emptive invasion claiming the contrary.
