*sigh* I love this girl sooooo much. I mean, her hair, all out of whack the entire video, pigtails uneven, blinds in her apartment frayed and beaten, she really is a geekly little goddess.

This is gonna get moved, even though the main content of your post is less about the "Media" of it and more about the lady of Nostalgia.

Too late at night to watch the video now, but I'll appreciate it over dinner tomorrow. Looking forward to it; I thought Mulan was dreck aside from the Jerry Goldsmith score.

Yeah, gotta love Jerry Goldsmith.

She is correct, foot binding took place 4 centuries after Mulan was written.

I was too "busy" to really pay attention much to the review while watching it. :slywink:

I love how the NChick and that other chick genuinely enjoyed singing along to that song.

Heck, I do too. Both in English and in Finnish.

:notes:NIIN KUIN MIES!
Kuin joki voima se meissä virtaa,
NIIN KUIN MIES!
On juuret syvällä niin kuin puun,
NIIN KUIN MIES!
On tuli sisällä vailla vertaa,
Me liikumme yössä hiljaa niin kuin kuu!

"But you know an avalanche can't take down this jaundiced motherfucker."

I have no idea why I'm laughing as hard as I am, but I caused myself pain from snorting so hard.

Hell I can watch that video without singing along, who couldn't. Ah, found it on youtube... I had forgotten how good the TO DEFEAT THE HUNS! DID THEY SEND ME DAUGHTERS WHEN I ASKED FOR SONS?

Because I must.

Teitä surkeempaa oo nähnyt en,
ja tiedän sen, on nähty tuo.
Teistä viel' miehen näin minä luon.

You're the saddest bunch I ever met,
But you can bet before we're through,
Mister I'll make a man out of you.

finnish sounds TOTALLY different than I was expecting.

I've been told it sounds 'song-like'. And what did you expect, exactly? If you say Swedish, I will have to declare vendetta on your sorry ass :p

It sounds... language. Like, where is this from? Don't know... It doesn't sound from anywhere, it's just like "basic human language".

Or, if you want, maybe it's a little elvish. But as the proud owner of a dwarf avatar, I don't think you'll like that.

It sound too "poity", if we go for the medieval comparation, it would be the language of a race that uses spears as main weapons, and probably lives in the cold temperate woods.

I was expecting Finnish to sound more "smooth".

The elvish thing? Not surprising... Tolkien used Finnish, alongside with Welsh, as an inspiration for his elven languages. If I remember correctly, the pronunciation of Quenya is pretty close to Finnish, and he also took a few words directly from Finnish. Vene, which in Quenya means 'ship', is Finnish for 'boat'.

So why a dwarf is in the elven lands? :)

Because I'm bearded, grumpy, generally jovial but God help you if you piss me off...

Also, because my first avatar - the dwarven guard from LICD - kinda looked like me, if I was a dwarf ;)

And the Germans thought you were all elves in the olde days.

Slavic and Germanic lore tells of the elves to the north, they even have records of Kings and such. It's thought that they were simply referring to the fair haired and skinned men of Scandinavia.
