The Nostalgia Critic reviews Tank Girl

What? A comic-movie review without a Linkara cameo? Boo!

Anyway fun to watch, but not really fair in the criticisms. First he complains that the comic frames aren't animated, then he complains when they are.

Regardless as to what he said to justify it, that movie still looked awful.

I remember randomly seeing bits of this movie playing on TV when I was about 14 or so. I remember thinking that what I saw then was horrible even by my prepubescent standards. It hasn't gotten any better in the interim.

I really liked the movie, it was over the top and took itself seriously not at all. Plus it advocated tea and crumpets, tasty!

Completely disagree with his entire video, which is obviously biased as Tank Girl is one of my all-time favorite bad movies.

You know, looking at the video, it seems like ThatGuyWithTheGlasses is really stretching to find things to be comically upset about.

I mean, the movie looks pretty dang dumb, but it doesn't look as horrible as he's trying to make it out to be.

Actually I stopped watching after 30 seconds he obviously doesn't get it, or even knows that there was a punk movement. I enjoyed the movie a great deal, but then again I'm eagerly awaiting the coming Apocalypse because of lame twits like him and pretty much anyone involved in "reality" shows.

You guys... realize he -has- to stretch to be as comically angry at these movies as he does, right? If he sat down and reviewed them legitimately, no-one would give a shit.

Plus, it's all opinion. For example, he hated Space Jam. I love Space Jam. Along with Ferngully. (Though I admit that one is easy to make fun of.)

He doesn't come down irrationally hard on every movie. In fact, he's reviewed some good nostalgia. Check out his reivew of Double Dare, or one of his top 11 lists to see how he can be funny while not going completely off the deep-end. If the movie isn't bad enough to just rant at, skip the damn movie. It's one thing to exaggerate a reaction, it's another thing to rant like that at nothing. Doug's best work has been when it's exaggerated, but just a little, like stage acting.

Tank Girl looked like garbage to me. Just because you liked it doesn't mean it doesn't look like garbage to me. I enjoyed his review, and even movies like Space Jam, which I loved as a kid, I still enjoy those reviews. It's called 'not having a double standard'.

Let me put this in another light:

I loved his review because it was the type of entertainment I expect from watching his videos. He is not a "real critic" that you can judge films off of, but his schtick is fun and gives me what I look for in that type of comedy.

The things he bashed in the film, he'd obviously tell you IRL that were mostly just for the sake of jokes (Like making fun of the comic cut-aways, or that the character of Tank Girl is just downright absurd in it's absurdity) and not because they detracted from the fun of the film.

I don't have much of an opinion of the movie. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't very good either. I enjoyed watching the review, but I enjoy the NC more when he makes sense, as well as makes jokes. Complain about the still comic frames, or about the animated sequences. Don't complain about both because at that point you're making less sense than the movie. Or at least do a "Nooo, I was wrong, I don't want the pictures to move! I take it back, I take it back!" and acknowledge the disparity.

You know, I just rewatched the video and nowhere does he say either 'this would be better if the comics moved' or 'this would be better if it was still frames'. At most he says 'wow, it's just like a comic coming to life... without it actually coming to life!', which was more, in my mind, to mock the intentions of whoever decided to put them in. He seems to be mocking only just how stupid, random, and pointless they are, be they moving or no. Which, from the looks of things, they were.

It looked awful and by the fact that the comic's own creators have stated how awful it was.

Although to be fair it didn't look like the worst possible film ever to exist, it just looked like some 5$ film thrown together to generate some money, although it clearly didn't do that.

When someone posts a link to his reviews I do look at them, no matter what the movie is, because for some reason I want to like this guy's 'shtick' but I wind up muting him 40%+ of the time. For what it's worth I think I hated Casper more than he did.

To clarify my own position: It doesn't look like the kind of movie I'd enjoy watching. At all. In fact, it looks like the kind of movie I'd shut off ten minutes into it and then go surf the web instead. But at the beginning, TNC played up how much he hated this movie much more than any other of the reviews I saw. And yet, he did a bad job of selling how bad the movie was.

That is, until we got to the kangaroo people played by Ice-T. That looked pretty awful.

Something like this, while pretty goofy-looking, does not seem anywhere near the ass-shittery level of say Garbage Pail Kids or maybe Howard the Duck. In consequence, gags like the starving children thing don't seem as funny as they might be.

I did get some chuckles, though, like the girl-on-girl kiss bit.

The starving children joke was probably something that sounded funny in the writing process, but just didn't translate to the screen. It happens.

And Tank Girl looks awful.
