The day before yesterday I finally wiped my main work computer to reinstall, since I had done several clones due to failed hard drives and one system makeover. I wanted that "(sniff) ahhhhh... fresh!" and fast Windows bootup. So I'm getting everything reinstalled, and I've misplaced my mobo install cd.. no biggy, I check Gigabytes site.. they have all the drivers there right? Fine. download. Get everything installed. Device Manager says there's still 4 "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" that are missing drivers. Ok, so as far as the clues I'm given, I go back to Gigabyte, thinking I missed something. Download all versions of their audio drivers and packages. None detect those 4 devices. My sound works fine. I stick in my "All drivers" dvd. Nothing. NOTHING!

I finally stick Everest on the computer and look up the actual device: "Nvidia unknown".. Nvidia?! So I had Nvidia do a scan to see if there was Nforce devices in the system.. nope! I finally decide to reinstall the latest Nvidia drivers, and NOW it picks it up! Turns out it was the audio side of this adapter (middle port, not the card I have) :

Fricking HDMI port sound.. Don't get me wrong... I'm VERY glad that it has hidef capability but I don't have a 1080p tv or monitor to hook it up to yet, and I wish there had been a simpler way to get that process figured out. I had already installed the video drivers and somehow (presumably because I hadn't installed sound yet) it totally missed sound driver installation at that point.

Nvidia and sound.. those are two words that don't normally mix for me.. ?
