Looks like Glados might be around still too... unless that thing is going to house the founder of the company like it is rumored.

Sorry, but as EA don't count as creators of C&C neither does Valve for CS...

And you don't see anyone saying that Epic Megagames is the creator of all the games that have been using the Unreal engines either.

And i guess there's no news on what P2 will be about then.

Shit, I'm gonna have to buy Portal for XBOX now and re-play it there. Oh well, such is life, I guess. :eek:hwell:

Any news what it's gonna be about?!
Kotaku has some major spoilers: An Insider's Guide to Portal 2

In short it revolves around Chell's interactions with the computer simulation of Aperture Science's founder Cave Johnson, who becomes increasingly unhinged as the game goes on

Also Kotaku says that the cooperative multiplayer mode will have an "entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters,"

... how crucified will I get if I told you guys I only played like 3 hours of the first Half-Life and haven't really played any more of it, yet completed Portal a few times and loved every microsecond of it?

Half Life and Portal are two very different games. I don't find it at all surprising that someone might love one while not caring for the other.

I'm not saying I didn't like Half-Life, I think the reason that I stopped playing was that my laptop kept crashing or something.... long time ago, don't really remember.... but it's been so long I'm weary of jumping back in and finishing all the.. "episodes".

THat's the other thing, I don't get the whole episode system.

Not much, really.

I'd still recommend playing Half-Life though, as it is an extremely solid FPS game.

First Half-Life is good, I also liked the Opposing Force XPAC, never got to play much of Blue Shift.

Honestly, Calleja, I'd say you could skip that outing and maybe come back around to it if your'e curious if/when Black Mesa Source drops.

The Episodes are for Half-Life 2. They're just the next parts of that story, but they're shorter than either Half-Life or Half-Life 2.

And they're just stand alone mini expansions, not really complicated enough to have to "get".
Unless you want the story, that is. You could probably skip episode 1 if you had too, but Episode 2 has some serious plot stuff in it that your not going to want to miss.

It also has some of the best gameplay in the entire Half Life series. The turret battle with Griggs and Sheckley, the first battle with hunters, ambushes by combine and oh so much more.

Yeah, but that last part where you need to defend the shacks with the Magnuson Devices is crap. Why the hell did they make such complicated explosives to fight off the Striders when they COULD have made a bunch of Stinger rockets during the same time and just shot them down like that? Though to be fair, it DOES sound like the kind of idiot move that the guys at Black Mesa would pull.

I loved the Magneson device defense. The rockets thing would have been simpler, but we shot down Striders in Half-Life 2 and one in Episode I. This was cool, and got the car involved. I loved bashing down the hunters with the car, shooting the Magneson up from point-blank at the Strider, and then bursting its head.

Calleja, the episodes are stand-alone, like sequels. No save files carry-overs or anything; it's really not complicated at all.

Because then they wouldn't be named Magnusson Rockets, and Magnusson probably wouldn't stand for that. :D

Yeah well I hated it... because I can't get the god damn shack defense achievement...
The secret to the "Neighborhood Watch" achievement is that very specific striders are the ones that destroy buildings. Specifically striders #4, 7 & 8. Those three move fast, and usually crouch while moving, but each one will try and destroy a specific building (see the link for details). It's a lot less frantic when you realize not every strider is a threat to buildings.

I'm more interested in seeing how the Portal Gun will work in Ep. 3.

Portal was fun but became increasingly repetitive, if it wasn't for the tidbits of humor I'd have been bored to tears. I can't imagine Portal 2 being that innovative in terms of the gameplay.
