Valve made an update to Portal today

"Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations"

There's a new achievement, as well. "Transmission Received"

Anyone know what this is about?

To get Transmission Recieved, you need to pick up the Radio in each level, then follow the static until you find the Morse Code location (The light on the Radio turns from Red to Green when you've found it). You need to do this for all 26 areas. We're thinking it's a kind of hidden announcement for Portal 2, but there aren't exactly a lot of people who use Morse Code anymore outside of the intelligence community, hobbyists, and veterans, so it's been slow going to get it deciphered. The translation will probably be out within a day or two I think though.

I have a deep-seeded pathological fear of bees.
I was weird as a kid (not that much has changed), I'd pet bees. We had a lot of clover in our backyard, and as the bees crawled around the flowers, I loved to feel the fuzz on their backs.

(it's deep seated, for future reference)

Bah. I knew it was one of those. Just didn't feel like looking it up.

It's alright. You were just unconsciously referring to the alternative method of bee reproduction, in the event the hive is without a queen for an extended period.

(By the way, planting these in someone else's garden is generally considered a dick move. "Here, have some BEES!")

I caught bees when I was a kid. Would just put my hand under 'em and let them crawl around till they got bored. Felt sorry for the poor males and would take them home in a jar and give them somewhere to stay until they died >>

At any rate, this might be of interest to some of you.

edit: This too

Can this game company do anything wrong? They know how to motivate their core audience and they didn't dumb it down at all!

Their history with the Left 4 Dead series shows they CAN drop the ball... and HARD.

Now that was really cool. Playing through the game again and hunting down all the radios was a refreshing challenge. Some of them were hidden pretty devilishly too.

There's speculation on the Steam forums that this has something to do with Episode 3, because apparently someone extracted Barney, Kleiner and Alyx's voices from the new sound files.

Is that from the last update, or the one from today

Considering the time of today's update and edzepp's post, I'm guessing yesterday.

I assume that voice is Cave Johnson's voice, since there's widespread speculation he'll be a character in Portal 2, as an AI.

I wonder why he has an Asian accent though.

I sure hope all this Portal stuff is about something besides announcing Steam for Mac.

From the start, Valve promised additional support to Left 4 Dead along the lines of TF2, with updates and free content for the game to give it longevity. About 6 months pass and we get nothing, but suddenly Valve announces Left 4 Dead 2. Everyone is pissed that Valve broke their word with the fanbase and the boycott starts... and Valve takes it serious enough that it fly's out the leaders of the boycott to see this "new" campaign they've been secretly working on for Left 4 Dead 1, in an attempt to get the boycott to end. What they didn't tell anyone (until after it was released) was that Crash Course's two maps where actually made from cut material from the game that Valve took out because they didn't want the campaigns to have a clear connection to each other, but had hastily (and anyone who's played Crash Course can tell how shabbily) thrown together to appease the fan base.

Also, considering they are STILL refusing to comment on the pricing for The Passing and the fact that L4D2 has a DLC tab that Left 4 Dead never had, it's pretty apparent they are going to be charging us for it. This goes against Valve's long standing policy of not charging PC users for content, but that's not the real issue. Most of us can deal with having to pay $2-5 for the content... we just want to fucking be told that we are long before the DLC hits. It's supposed to come out in the next month, so lets hope Valve fucking says something before they release it.

I think D. Rattman seems to fit more, since the scrawled messages left for Chell in Portal are from the Ratman. I've seen speculation that h0nee is the password to go with the drattman login.
