Ok so I got a Toshiba PORTEGE and that's NOT a misspelling, laptop in yesterday, donated because it's busted and he didn't want to spend the $$$ to have it fixed.. so after my final try of fixing it failed and it got more broken...
.. I start disassembling the thing to salvage whatever parts I can. I'm at the very end when I'm taking the screen out (which I don't know if it works or not) and I look at the label: WACOM DIGITIZER UNIT. It's finally at this point that I realize "DUDE! this was an expensive laptop!" and quite possibly "I wonder if this was stolen..."
(When I have a broken laptop that is too expensive to fix, I do take them apart in order to salvage components that are useful to others. Sometimes in that process accidents happen... or I take a 'break' and vent some steam and magic computer smoke.
)
I guess either way, I have his identification if the cops DO come looking for it, and in the meantime I will probably see if I can sell this on Ebay.
I will say some nice things about Toshiba though... while their older Satellite laptops are complete and utter CRAP, I like the design of their newer ones, with a panel that has direct access to the CPU/fan in case it needs to be reseated. This is a GODSEND!! rather than tearing apart the entire laptop!
