I don't know, that looks really dumb to me. But at this point, it'd have to be something really genuine to make me crave Predators more after the shlock of the AvP series.

Heck, there's Danny Trejo! Badass enough for the Pradators for sure :)

Mahershalalhashbaz Ali would be a pretty cool name on its own, but heck, he plays a guy called Mombasa, how cooool is that?

Looks good. Solid cast, decent story from the sounds of it, good design... hell, even my wife watched that trailer and said, "Yeah... I'll probably see that."

Is that Shane... he better totally fuck up in some tragic way... give Shield fans something familiar to relate to the film better.

Except it's only Predators, so the cast is not irrelevant like it was in AvP.
Not AS irrelevant. They still look pretty unmemorable from that trailer. The whole thing being a game/hunting experiment just seems dumb to me. I hate being THAT GUY, but it really never seems like it's gonna approach what Predator was.

its cool to see Rodriguez doing something after the Quentin Tarentino grindhouse thing. kinda wish he was heading up the WWZ project.

He's not directing or writing Predators.

And I'm really not all like "sanctity of the material!!!" I am excited for Wall Street 2, Nightmare 2010, and I love the Friday the 13th remake.

really??!! YOU'D THINK THE VIDEO WITH THOSE LITTLE LETTER THINGIES, THAT HE NARRATES, THE VIDEO THAT I WATCHED TWICE BEFORE LINKING IT HERE WOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT! [STRIKE]God[/STRIKE]ScienceDAMN it I feel CHEATED.

That looks fucking terrible..
Okay, well sure, I mean you seem to have good taste in films so maybe I should watch it again and

Nightmare 2010, and I love the Friday the 13th remake.
er...

That anyone would rather see MICHAEL BAY presents a MICHAEL BAY produced film directed by a guy that MICHAEL BAY picked: Nightmare on Elm Street 12:You've already seen this exact film when it was nightmare 1 and it had Johnny Depp in it but now it has more awesome and hip and pretty people and tits whoooooimmichaelbay from MICHAEL BAY... well it just boggles my mind. But Bay brings a built in audience so I'm sure it will do well. :p

Seriously though, this looks like a really solid movie. I can't wait to see it. I'm not gonna get my hopes to far up but the cast and team behind it seems to be strong. So yeah, I see no reason to be a negative nancy about it yet.

Also: Crone, my understanding about how the film is being done is that Rodrigez is taking a very hands on approach to this film, much like P. Jackson and District 9. They aren't just sitting back and collecting paychecks. They are helping and giving a chance to some people that they think will make great films. Hopefully this is as good as it looks.

His next name change should be to Negative Nancy.

Again, judging recent movies, I feel he's right to be cynical. Taking the trailer by itself, there's reason to hope.

But like I said, I'm a sucker. I saw AVP opening weekend--it was me alone, and then somewhere in the back were a couple girls shrieking. The only cool part was when the Alien Queen came up from the ice, and that was partly because this was a low-screen part of the theater, meaning you were pretty much sitting level with the screen, and it felt like you were there.

I'm a fan of the Alien and Predator franchises to the point that they can continue to rope me in and I will continue to fall for it, hoping that they'll make movies as good as they used to. On that note, I did enjoy Requiem, but not for the reasons I enjoyed the older movies. I almost wish they'd just made the Predator in that the main character. He was my favorite anyway. Detective Predator, on the job! ...But that's the problem. I'm enjoying it, but also laughing at it. Which is better than AVP, which just annoyed me endlessly with its camera angles and dialogue to work off the old movies (though Requiem does it too, to a lesser extent. Requiem also annoyed me for its stupid set-up scenes--just tell the goddamned story; we don't need to see the guy get his fucking keys). I never laughed at Alien, Aliens, or Predator--sometimes with them, if there was a joke, but they still engage me. Alien is still scary, and Aliens and Predator are still badass and with memorable characters. Even Alien 3 (extended cut) isn't terrible if you can get past how it shits all over the wonderful ending to Aliens, and I imagine Predator 2 is looking pretty good these days compared to AVP.

I have hope because this has a good cast, and Rodriguez sounded like he wanted to make this its own thing, and NOT another movie trying to recapture the glory of Predator. He specifically said they were treating it like a first movie instead of a sequel, so hopefully there won't be any homages to the other films and hopefully it won't feel like the story is in a rush like in AVP or Requiem.

They should just redo the first movie and put in tons of young hot models who can't act as the characters and have Michael Bay produce it. Then it will be awesome.

 Damn Juski, when did joking around and giving a fella hard time over movie tastes turn into a federal crime? It's all in good fun man, charlie does enough picking on peoples tastes to know that its not personal (if it was I sure as hell wouldn't just be making stupid Michael Bay jokes). If you had said you couldn't wait for the nightmare remake over this I'd make a joke about that too. Lord knows I love my share of shitty movies and have been picked on for it, hell you guys got 10 kinds of nerdrage over me liking avatar and daring to defend it and we all piled on the TF2 folks. I think Boner can handle some joking around.

Do you guys actually understand or realize how producing works at all? There is no hint of Michael Bay touches in Friday or Nightmare (from what I've seen)

Yes. You get your name on a movie. Do nothing (except throw big Hollywood parties to promote the thing a little bit). And get millions of dollars. It's the perfect job.

If I may comment on this discussion: producing is essentially the business end of making a movie. A producer handles the financing, paperwork and legal work involved.

Depending on the producer they may have a more active role in the filmmaking as well, it just depends on the person or people who are doing the producing.

executive producers do get to make executive decisions on casting, big story things and all that sort of thing, don't they?

Producers can put their touches on a movie sometimes, but for the most part, the creative process is still 95% writer/director/actors/cinematographer/editor
