Prenatal Hormone Treatments Provoke Scientific Shitstorm

That's... just... dumb. That's not going to work the way they think it will and will probably just cause other problems involving hormones later in the girl's life.

And she could still become a dreaded lesbian!

The article makes it sound like the doctor in question has good intentions, but has strayed from the path of proper medical and scientific ethics. Road to hell, et cetera.

"Nor do we think it reasonable to use medicine to prevent uppity women, like the sort who might raise just these kinds of alarms."

That right there says a lot about the goodness of it.

"It's not reasonable to use this medicine to get rid of women like that, but damn it, we should. Get them bitches in line, yo, so they can stop bitchin' about my new meds."

Argh.

uh wha?!?

drawn to "traditional masculine career?" say whua?? the only reason it is masculine cause the "man" was attempting to put women in "their place" and prevent women from taking those jobs. That is not hormones, that is stupid male-centric society.

uppity?? - according to many dictionary, just means that a person is taking place above their social hierarchy. I like my women uppity. There should be an equal society. Women can do stuff same as men. They can be CEO. they can be world leaders.

This article hurts my head and I can't even read more than 1/2 of it cause I was to bitch slap that doctor so hard she'll be back in the 1800 and see if SHE likes it there.

Okay I'm seeing 1 part fire and 29 parts smoke. I mean there is nothing there that says that this treatment really will effect female sexuality, female ambition female anything.

The side saying that this is the Lesbian focused drug warfare are a bunch of idiots crying about how the sky is falling there is no science to base their position on because we have no idea what causes one woman to become a lesbian or what causes another woman to become a CEO.

I mean we can't even agree on the basics like if Lesbianism is Nature or Nuture so arguing if a CAH treatment is some sort of anti-lesbian drug is based off bad science and a whole lot of paranoia.

The good news is that this idea probably won't get terribly far with any of the homophobes I've met - they all swear on their lives that deviant sexuality is a choice/social fad.

Besides, this treatment almost certainly wouldn't do a damn thing about homosexual compulsions - very feminine women can be gay, as well as very feminine men - I mean, shit, look at the spartans. They were gay as a treefull of bonobos on LSD and a small pack of 'em could kick the entire world's ass twice over.

Funny thing about that. I seem that the "homophobes" are recent things. If you look at history you have different empire that molest same sex all through out the ages. It is until recently that it is consider "bad bad bad"

I am thinking the religious group decides to unit the people with a common enemy to make them stronger. It is true that human nature then to unite when faced against a common foe. Look at the world wars. I remember my prof told me that America wasn't really a high weapon production until after World War I when U.S. was brought into the war. Industry really skyrocket after the Industrial age.

Maybe the religious people feel that same sex tendency is a sin and thus wrote into the book and declare evil. Of course that is my personal opinion with practically no fact whatsoever, but I think it is normal for anyone to have same sex urges, it is just that the society has suppress so many minds and make it "evil" that only a few really express themselves.

that is my take. It is normal and not "evil" I believe it is stupid that people think they are going to be the "bane" of human existence.

To be fair, even in cultures where same sex activity was considered acceptable, normal, and even expected, heterosexual activity has also been present and/or required. What's different about the homosexuals of the modern, western world, is that they are pursuing a homosexual lifestyle where it is a) atypical of the wider culture, and b) completely replacing/precluding heterosexual activity. You can't ignore that context, even if you want to declare that the Greeks were so much more sexually enlightened because they let little boys suck them off.

But we are in a modern age. Old cultural norms, like prohibitions against homosexuality, birth control, remaining unmarried, etc. are obsolete. We don't need to have dozens of children each because of a high mortality rate. We aren't fighting tribal wars that require lots of sons to send into the fray.

I won't address religious reasons to fear/hate/disagree with homosexuality, because while I understand the standpoint of the bible-belt baptist, I do not agree with him. And he isn't going to listen anyways. Unfortunately, the only solution to some generational problems is to wait for the problem generation to die off. Even more unfortunate is the fact that some places ignorance and hatred are bred so strong, it might take a few generations before attitudes thaw. But it will come, I promise you that.

I honestly don't get their concern. Homosexuality seems like the most natural form of birth control. No need for arguments about when life begins, etc. With homosexual couples, the possibility of an unwanted child is almost nil! Plus, that means less births and therefore less people, and the world could use a few less people about now.

Just how much influence is this supposed to have? Who's to say that a hirsute, contralto woman with ambiguous genitalia can't be unquestionably heterosexual (and possibly even end up fulfilling someone's boutique fetish)? Or maybe become a developmental researcher? Where will we get the control studies, where male fœti are subjected to similar treatments (or worse) to 'make sure it works?' And how do the mom and dad justify calling themselves 'parents' after totally botching the job of ensuring the welfare of these utterly defenseless protobeings?

Honestly, you might as well just take some X-rays of mom's abdomen in the hopes that you might fortunately kill 'all the Gay Cells.' It'd probably be more effective. If you're lucky you might kill her ovaries, too. All solved.
