I am SO confused.
Here's a Kotaku article on the game.

Story details are fuzzy, but I've seen a few pop up. Apparently, it involves a small town that still believes in witches. Wright and Maya are defending a young woman who has been accused of being a witch, while Professor Layton and Luke are simply trying to reveal the truth of the whole ordeal. Apparently someone known as "The Storyteller" may be involved, whose written words become reality. Gameplay details haven't been mentioned yet, but it's likely to have both puzzle bits and evidence gathering bits on top of the Trial bits.

Anyone else a bit frustrated that Level-5 took so quickly to the 3DS? Now if I want to get the full story of the second trilogy, I'm going to have to buy ANOTHER handheld (because Mask of Miracles in confirmed for 3DS)... one whose price is likely to be around $300 at launch and that Nintendo will just make a better version of the next year (and EVERY YEAR AFTERWARD). I'm not even sure WHY they are making a new handheld so late in the game, when the DS still has lots of life in it.

No... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... now I have to get one too. I was trying so hard to tell myself I didn't need one, but this is just to much win. :'(

It'll see a Western release EVENTUALLY... Professor Layton is wildly popular in England and Europe, while still doing quite good in the US. Including Phoenix in a Layton game is a GREAT way to promote the Ace Attorney series as well... though I am getting REAL tired of Level-5 dropping the ball with Layton stuff. First a 2-year translation period for the second game, then no US release for the first movie. They seriously need to step up their game if they want the franchise to stay viable in the US.
