Yesterday was the 1 month mark for project 1999 (an Everquest emulated server that attempts to recreate Everquest as it was at launch, read more here http://www.halforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9949)

the server seems to be growing well (hit 300 this weekend, and that is all indivduals (there is code to prevent multi-boxing)). So far we have survived exceeding expectations at launch (they had no idea they would get 100+ opening weekend, the server we are on now can handle over 1000) and a DDoS attack that took us down for a day about two weeks in (Various rumor as to the source range from players on other servers jelous at P99's success to players who were banned for duping).

There are still some bugs (more reports than the GM's can handle ATM IMO) but it does truly have the feel of 1999 and a huge world. There has been talk of a guide program (which would help, because currently the same people who are fishing corpses out of the Ocean of Tears are also the people with access to the scripts to fix quests).

If anyone is thinking of playing (or is currently playing) let me know! would love to see some Halforumites around Norath.

There's just no way I could brutalize myself like that again. I played EQ1 because it was the first of it's kind, there was no better. Though to those looking for nostalgia I can see the draw.

I came close to playing UO on some older servers (emulate pre-trammel/fellucia shards) but I am highly tempted to play the pre-holocron SWG. (I think that project still building.. I haven't keep track of that)

server down already haha. corrupt gms, no coders, no boxing, no progression in proper order... it was a lie.. still in beta basically.

PEQ is still the best, only real legendary server with dedicated staff.. who actually make changes and play without causing misperceptions or begging donations, more importantly.

Wow, was gone all weekend and came back to find the server down to DDOS attack. Actually came here to make mention of it (some people just dislike seeing other people have fun, go figgure) to find somone had made mention of it.

You want to box and run your own 16 man raid, go wild, just not on our server. I'm happy ot know that when I'm in a group, im playing with 5 other people, not one guy who is boxing his monk to pull, rogue to dps, cleric to heal, and bard to twist haste/heal song.

As far as progression not being in proper order, the server has been open under 2 months and there has been no "progression" so far (hate, air, Temple of Sol Ro are all closed and there are no expansion enabled) so I don't see how you can say it's not in proper order.

The different servers have different goals and are serving different audiences. I don't understand the hate from the PEQ or VZ/TZ crowd other than you are losing population because people want to relive memories of 10 years ago rather than play with kids who wern't born then.

Spambots can be from anywhere. And so far you've been very, very close to the definition of spamming. Your only saving grace is that your first few posts have had actual content and were obviously written out & not cut/pasted.

But the link spamming is a red flag. What is the link about? What is it mean? What is it about?

And as to the banner...I can only laugh. Hit F5 and it changes. We tried a banner rotation mod and we put a few in there that amused us. Glad you liked it.

I actually run both accounts windowed on the same computer, running on two the way I do it would be completely impossible, especially with my melee characters. I make no secret of having two accounts at once, like these two, Insolent Night and Insolent Day.



Two accounts for City of Games are just fine, you play two you pay two, and have a nice day. I've had GM's ask me about issues I've run into with certain doors and path following for my second player, and no one has said a thing.

Occasionally some folks at first say that they don't believe someone could run two at once well. I then offer to either leave now, or if they see me in one mission if they want, I'll leave then. After a mission no one has asked me to leave yet. I have had folks say in PM's that they really believed us when we said I was one person "LOL".

This gives me extra room of storage for crafting, more funds, and when I can't sleep and it's one of those missions where a switch has to be thrown on two sides of the map at 3 am, a second set of hands.

I don't see how I am causing someone else to not have a good time, or would be affecting anyone in any way other than getting them more loot with more enemies on the mission since I am bringing 2 bodies. This is why I don't understand the "OMG Dualboxing Haxxor! WTFGTFO!!! Ew ew ew ew UNCLEAN!!!" response.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, nor that I am better, I just want to know why the hate.

Okay this is just weird. You use words like "germane" yet the rest of your post is nearly incomprehensible. And I am not sure what the link spamming is about. What are the links about? What are they for? Most people won't click links from strangers or those they do not trust. I fail to see why the quantum mechanics article has anything to do with the conversation.

Update: They found the source of the DDoS and have been posting the information online as well as contacting the athorities.

That's awesome news, I love it when they find these kids and give them a nice skidmark in their chairs.

im sure the cops will get right on it! im still waiting to roll until the server is proven stable and tested further. its still beta basically. there are other projects to watch if this one continues to be unreliable.

Yeah, not sure how much the police actively go after DDoS attacks, unless it can be proven that there was significant monetary loss. Hell, look how long it took them to find the DDoS people who attacked Yahoo, Google & sites like that. I don't see it happening too much.

And I've also heard stuff about potential instability. I haven't experienced it because I don't play, but this thread made me read up on it and I heard a lot of the same things I saw here.

As for stability, the eqemu servers for the most part are stable (Played on PEQ and Irreverent and could probably count the number of "down days" in the last 4 months on one hand for both of those servers combined).

This project just seems to have drawn the ire of somone with a LOT of time on thier hands...

Just keeps getting better. So someone has made a post claiming to be the DDoSer. What is better, they are claiming that they are a mod from another server and are doing it becasue of "favoritism and corruption" of the GM's on this server.

Just wondering about your ID as you came here about the same time as the DoS attacks started.

During the day it's been ok. After about 9PM it a roller coster. The server goes up, i log in and kill two things, server goes down. If it wasn't for the yellow "DDoS attack incoming, get somewhere safe" messages it would actually be recreating my lauch week experience in 99 pretty well...

Anti-DDoS Hardware should be in by Wednesday, we will see what that does.

Looks like the lamer is at it again. Haven't been able to log in today or connect to the forum or EQemu forum so he must be attacking the login server this time because the forums also went down the last time the login server was attacked.

On the bright side, I figured out how to read the gibberish spell file that wasn't working for some people (mainly Titanium users) and finished fixing the Ranger spells all the way to 65 using a spell list from an EQ Mac forum since they never went beyond PoP. I also fixed the spells from 50-65 that were showing 255 instead of the appropriate level in the level field in case Rogean ever decided to use them. I also included any spells up to 65 that were introduced during Luclin or PoP, again in case they should ever be used on the server one day. I have also fixed the Paladin spells up to level 30 that weren't working. I've been looking at numbers all day and my eyes are getting tired so I'll have to continue fixes later assuming I can ever get online to test whether the fixes I made so far work. I also need to find a list showing when spells from 66 and up and those that were introduced after PoP were originally obtained before the levels got shuffled in case those spells are ever needed. sigh.

You guys know if the forums are under attack you have a place you can turn, right? We'd be happy to let you in. As long as shit for brains DDoSer doesn't follow you, that is!

We already have DDoS protection, IIRC. I'm going to look into that today just to make sure.

By the way, I just opened a ticket with our host company to see what we have in place. I want to be prepared just in case.

That would never happen.

It just went from bad to worse. DDoSer attacked the EQEMU login server. Datacenter pulled the plug on the server and canx their contract. That means no more EQEMU (including PEQ and dozens of other servers). As it is a much larger topic, I created a new topic.
