Reading comments on this on Kotaku, I'm entirely impressed by how many people use the term "what gamers want is".
This is exactly the device I've been waiting for. All of my gaming has to be portable (the only time I get to play is pretty much when I'm working out). I don't like my iPhone or the wife's iPad for anything but rudimentary puzzle games and adventure games. I want real, full length games on a portable device. The 3DS didn't really move me much. This one, on the other hand, will take a heroic staying of my hand to wait for the traditional, slightly cheaper second version.
Well, that and I'll be filling up on discounted UMD titles to tide me over for a while.
The app store was pretty bad 4 months back for full games, but now there are more full games launching per month than the ds and psp ever had.
Heres a nice list of full games longer than most handheld games that i have played (and way longer than Ghost of sparta)
-Shadow guardian, its uncharted on the ipad, about the same lenght (and production values)
-Modern combat, war fps series that are comparable to the ones on the xbox in lenght (and longer and better than the ones on the ds and psp)
-Nova, sci fi fps almost as good as Halo
-Eternal guardian, jap rpg with better graphics/longer gameplay than Crisi Core.
-Chaos Guardian, an awesome rpg by squaresoft
-Aralon, a game that plays like Oblivion, and is almost as big as oblivion
-Dead space- a real Dead Space game, unlike the rail shooter on the wii
-Dungeon Hunter series, action rpg as long as diablo 2
i could go on and on, while the itunes store may be confusing, there are games that make the PSP & ds and even the wii look like a PS1 game, its just a matter of reading reviews instead of buying the top ten (which have gimped short games like Rage and Infinity Blade)
Not to mention the battery life is longer (i played aralon, which looks like morrowind in graphic detail, for 10 hours straight before the battery ran out on me), and the games are cheaper (the most expensive ones in the list can be bought under ten dollars).
