PSP

As a potential Xmas gift for me, I was asked if I'd like one.

Now I don't recall which one correctly (the thread nor the PMs :() would be the ideal model that I can hack to play PSP games along with games from previous consoles like the SNES, Genesis, Nintendo, TG16, GBA... etc.

How is this done anyways? I'm sure someone here knows. :)

Your assistance and the gory details would be appreciated.

I think only up to the first line of the slim can be hacked. Newer Slims and the Go have not yet been hacked. Could be wrong.

Well my questions are:

1. What does the PSP offer that the DSI cannot? Same way for DSI to PSP?
2. My goal is to be able to play emulated roms in peace on the handheld for older gen systems like Super NES, Genesis, Nintendo (i have all these games... well mostly)

Someone in the know who can take 5 minutes to post would be appreciated :D

DSI can't be modded. Honestly, get a DSLite if you can, it has better functionality with it's GBA slot and can play any game that doesn't need the DSI camera. It can also take an R4 device if you want roms on it, but those ARE illegal to own in some countries. Check online if your not sure if your country is R4 friendly or not. The only ones I know for sure aren't R4 friendly are Japan and England.

The PSP, even unmodded, can do lots of stuff like play movies (if you buy a UMD version) and music. I think it can even surf the net via WI-FI. It's games also tend to look a lot better and have better music, but the controls can be awkward. Modded, it's kinda like having a really powerful iPhone that can't make calls. It can run tons of apps and can emulate games.

That being said, if your looking for INSTRUCTIONS on how to crack your PSP, you should ask somewhere else. I don't think Dave would appreciate us posting links to something like that.

R4's are legal enough to buy in a God damn kiosk in West Edmonton Mall, I know that much.

Quebec might be different for differences sake as they sometimes are.

I'm looking for a PSP mod friendly unit at this point. Seems like the pickings may be more difficult than expected. :/

Honestly, your best bet is something like EBay. Your not likely to find a mod-able PSP in a store, unless it's a small Mom and Pop place.

Yeah I have a PSP SLIM 2000. I did get it modded from a guy off Craigslist though so I'm not very "up to date" with all the particulars. What I do know, is that it needs to be "upgrade modded" every few months or so with Sony's latest batches of DRM. So if you can get a guy who knows what he's doing and get your hands on the right model PSP, you'll be golden.

Finding the .isos online isn't hard, and you can get the old school emulators pre loaded too during the modding. I have GBA, PSX, SNES, NES, GEN on mine right now.

Can that handheld also connect to a TV to play the PSP and it's emulators on the big screen? If so, then yeah I'd recommend it.

I see that the 8 and 16bit one does have a TV output, but the problem is, unlike the PSP you woudn't have access to PSX and PSP games.

True, but this might save him a bit of trouble if this is all he wants.

It's definitely an interesting handheld but:

Looked at the models, the handhelds look like pieces of crap though. Fragile.

And the PSP would be able to play movies... music. Would be nice.

Yeah I also have a PSP SLIM 2000, so I'd recommend that one. The updates for the hacks come pretty frequently to keep up with the DRMs.

I bought my wife the kingdom heart version (3000 series) she loves it, but we haven't try to hack it but a friend said it shouldn't be too hard to hack it.

BUT the only advice I would give is that, if you want to watch movie, don't get the Go series. NO UMD player.

I posted an add, got a couple of people wanting to sell theirs, the word is out though and they want good money for them. Some provided pictures... fuck... people can't take care of their shit.

Don't need an UMD player Chibi. If you hack the PSP, you can upload vidoes/movies directly to the PSP from their .avi .mpg form.

Be patient Jay, with Christmas around the corner, people are going to be selling better ones soon.

Got a good quote on a PSP Slim Blue. Person is telling it's been hacked and belonged to her son.

The FCC ID is : AK8PSP2001
Research tells me it's unhackable.

Yet, she tells me it is running 5.50 gen

Just make sure when you meet up, it's charged up fully and they display the working emulators completely.

I wish I can find a brand new or nearly new PSP Slim hackable model so that I can simply hit one of them shops and get it unbricked for a few bucks without having to worry about people treating their PSPs like shit (not of these fucks even have cases for it) and having to worry about getting screwed by buying the wrong "model". All the stores are selling that shitty new 3000 models now.

Damnit.

nothing is unhackable. There is always someone who can hack it.

Yeah the only issue is the stability of the hack.

Ex: The Xbox360 is hackable, but there isn't even a working NES emulator for it. However, the Xbox original can emulate almost any system on the market.

So simply put, the PSP 2000slim is the best handheld for hacking because of how stable the hacks are already out for it.
