Question about Sons of Anarchy

I had never even really heard of this show until very recently (which is odd) and being a huge fan of crime drama (The Sopranos, The Shield, etc.) I want to know if this one is worth picking up the first season on DVD and giving it a whirl. I absolutely adore Ron Perlman and Katey Segal so that's a bonus. So, my TV savvy Halfriends, is it any good?

I haven't seen it (oops), but I have read a lot of rave reviews for it.

Hmm, whatever, I guess I'll take a crack at it.

It's gotten pretty good reviews and ratings--it beat NBC and ABC last week--and apparently is a pretty good quasi-take on Hamlet.

But it looks like you've made up your mind anyway. KUDOS TO YOU SIR

I love the show actually. I've been watching it since first episode. Katey Segal is really showing her stuff this season as a lot of shit is going on with her character.

The big thing to keep in mind is, it's about a motorcycle club that are into running guns as their primary source of income. It's not so much your typical 'crime' drama since it's from a criminals point of view and the politics of a MC in a small town.

In short, if you've got the cash to spare and liked The Shield, Soprano's, etc, then this will surly entertain.

It's pretty good. When I first started watching the show I thought "this has got to be the biggest gang of pussies I've ever seen." One guy in on oxygen, a couple are old, Ron Pearlman doesn't look very intimidating, they always wear their helmets, and Jax is quick the cool the club down when they want to break heads. But I had just come off watching six seasons of Oz via Netflix and there were some real bad asses on that show. Season one of SOA is up and down. Some great episodes, like when the carnival comes to town and a member of the carnival rapes a local underage girl. Season two seems to be picking up steam, though.

I absolutely love this show. I do not miss any episodes of it at all. One of my main shows out there.

I've recently caught up with both seasons in the last day or two. Oh MAAAN, this show owns.

Yeah, I'm about halfway through the first season. I'm digging the hell out of it something fierce.

Yes, it is quite awesome.

Jax owns so hard. Although I didn't like how the second season
kept building to a climax with him versus Clay and then just sweeping that under the rug immediately for the last couple episodes. I guess everything will still be simmering next season. Although Winston's death was hella satisfying, and seeing Zobell pretty much emasculated and powerless was good, I still wanted him to die.

Where's Katey Segal's emmy, by the way?

She is absolutely fantastic on the show. When I first started watching it I thought "can I ever forget she was Peg Bundy?" Now that thought doesn't enter my mind. In fact, it would probably be the opposite if I were to watch an old Married with Children episode.

And I've got to say the season finale was great. Dexter is still my favorite drama on TV but SOA is definately second.

Ugh, just marathoned the second season with the girlfriend who would not let us stop watching it. I generally hate watching TV shows this way but I digress, it was still fantastic.

I was really bummed out by Half-Sack's death but then, as I found out reading the wikipedia, learned that the reason he was killed off was due to creative differences with the show's direction. Him being a Scientologist, I imagine it had something to do with the religious themes the show was taking on throughout the second season. Which sucks balls, I really liked Half-Sack. As for things being swept under the rug, I am not fond of the complete lack of follow up on the dangling plot line of Luann's murder. I guess we have next season to deal with that.
