Quick cosplay question

Can someone give me basic information on what is/isn't allowed in cosplay?

Can I carry a toy gun? What if it's in a real holster?

Also exactly how much am I going to be made fun of if throw together some closet cosplay at the last second?

Well, each convention has it own rules, but even with rules there's a gray area and some people are surprised at what they see others have brought in, and others are surprised at what gets confiscated. Check your convention's policy.

As far as being made fun of, you could have the best cosplay at the con and get negative attention, and you could have the worst and still get some positive attention. Do it for yourself, ignore the haters, enjoy providing some happiness to others who appreciate your effort, no matter how large or small, and don't over think it.

Ah, sorry! I didn't get the notification for the tag!

Most of what I would say has been covered. But, in my experience most cons allow toy guns - they need to have an orange tip and no ammo present. A real holster is fine. Most cons don't allow metal weapons of any kind and bows can't be strung/or you can't have arrows for it (which I think is sad).

I wouldn't make fun of you for having a closet cosplay and I doubt others will. Negativity can come from anywhere at a con, but there are tons of thrown together/closet costumes at every convention I've been to. I welcome it. :)

I thought you said you were coming to this one, but I wasn't sure :) Was great to see you today..i was gonna post my pic but you beat me to the punch, and yours is better than mine

I told you this at the con, but for anyone else wondering: according to the con website NRG center is an open carry location. I looked around, and didn't see any 30.07 or 30.06 signage (the Texas legal requirement to notify concealed carry license holders that they may not carry on premises). You can bring a toy gun...or if you're licensed, a real one.
