Apparently they waited until after his funeral to break the news to the public.
Rutger Hauer was a stable of my youth. His TV series Floris von Rosemund (cheesy af) was one of the earliest 'medieval' media to get me hooked to the age of chivalry.
Later on there was Ladyhawke and Flesh & Blood (Martin the mercenary was less chivalric though).
And then, of course, came Jugger (Blood of Heroes).
I learned to appreciate Blade Runner and Roy much later, as well as several other roles he played. There's gems among his older ones, still back in the Netherlands, like Soldier of Orange.
He'll be missed. Bye, Rutger!

Blind Fury and Blade Runner come to mind when I think of him. He was great in both. RIP

Blind Fury was amazing early cable days.

That sucks. I still bring him up as dream casting for the occasional villain.

Don't forget his all-time best role.
Hobo with a Shotgun.
I'm only mostly kidding. RIP mister Hauer.

Wow that means he was 38 when he played Roy. I had no idea he was that old then.
