Ryan Reynolds cast as Green Lantern

What the fuck, forum?? This is the type of thing I should be learning from you guys, not twitter!!

My huge man-crush on Reynolds makes this good news to me. It's supposedly not completely final, though, going by the "If the deal is completed.." part in the article.

If a movie doesn't deserve to be in development hell it's Green Lantern, dammit!!

Whaaaaaaat?

He was the worst of the choices by a mile. I like Ryan Reynolds. I really do, but man, Hal Jordan is not Ryan Reynolds. At all.

He'd make a better Kyle Raynor or fucking even Guy Gardner and he would be perfect for Wally West as Flash. I just cannot see him as Hal Jordan.

Calleja + Ryan Reynolds + Scarlett Johanson = Profit?

I thought Kyle Rsynor was the more popular GL? Well, besides John Stwart...why the fuck are they using Hal? I hate that guy.

Do agree that Rey nolds would make a great Wally West. Plus, I have always had a huge fictional character crush on West...add Reynolds in there and the hotness would be too much to take.

*IF* you had read MY post in the other Green Lantern thread just a wee bit of the way down the page you would have found out much earlier. :humph:

Really? I would and several friends of mine on Facebook also said they'd be totally down for Fillion. So would a lot of Firefly, Serenity and Dr. Horrible fans.

Then, of course, there's all the Green Lantern fans.

And the comic book geeks who see any and all comic book movies to support them.

And the casual fan who may have watched Justice League Unlimited.

Yeah, no one would go see it.

All those fans guaranteed the firefly universe would go on with the success of Serenity......

And I meant that in comparison to Ryan Reynolds.

I'm sure the $10,000,000 opening weekend of Serenity is really convincing to studios that Fillion is a leading man with drawing power.

While I agree that Reynolds fits Kyle Raynor or Wally West better than Hal Jordan, I think he's a good choice for the part.

Because Reynolds brings in the gold when it comes to...what movies he's starred in? I didn't know the Amityville was such a huge success. Or School of Life. And I doubt Reynolds was why Wolverine was a big hit. Hey, how did Blade III do, thanks to Reynods?

Oh, and thanks for ignoring the other examples I listed, too. I've got an idea. How about, for one, admit that you would be wrong in this case? Star power means near nothing when it comes to a franchise movie. Just ask Christopher Reeve and Michael Keaton. People didn't go see Toby McGuire to see him play Spider-Man. They went to go see Spider-Man.

And again, Kissinger, please refer to the REST of my list, as well, not just the first line.

The other examples would see the movie if an unknown was Green Lantern. I'm saying Reynolds would put more asses in the seats than Fillion.

Also - amityville was a huge success, it made back its budget opening weekend. And just in the last couple weeks The Proposal has been a huge hit.

ALSO - no one knows who the fuck the Green Lantern is, far fewer people will see it just to see the Green Lantern

The Proposal has been out for less than a month and has made over $100 million.

People actually know who Ryan Reynolds is.

When Spider-man came out, Toby Maguire had been in several movies, including the Oscar-nominated Cider House Rules.

I'm not saying that Nathan Fillion COULDN'T do it. I think he's a fine actor and could be a pretty decent leading man. But he's not quite there yet. People are just starting to learn his name from being in a TV show that people actually watch.

If the movie is good, then it wouldn't matter who is in the suit. I'm not saying that Reynolds can't do a good job, I'm just saying that I believe Fillion would do better. At that point, it would just a matter of word of mouth that puts asses in seats. Reynolds has been in successful movies that he hasn't starred in, but he's not exactly a box office hit, either.

Besides, he's already got Deadpool. Why not just stick with one comic book property and let someone else slip on the ring?

That said, I'm much happier Reynolds got it than, say, Timberlake.

That's so adorable that you think that movie quality translates to box office success.

I never said anything about who would do a better job. I don't know shit about Green Lantern! It's just ludicrously obvious that Reynolds would make the movie a bigger success.

Reynolds has been in successful movies that he hasn't starred in, but he's not exactly a box office hit, either..
RR is no Will Smith, but I'm just saying he's infinitely more popular and successful than Nathan Fillion, whose ONLY movie was undeniably a gigantic flop.

Eh, you're right about the quality of the movie doesn't make much difference. Transformers 2 and Wolverine certainly attest to that. But then there's examples like The Dark Knight, where reviews and word of mouth just made it more and more money.

I think casting Reynolds might make a blip, but in the long run, I don't think it would matter much.

Fuck it, this isn't an arguement I'm going to win. Gonna go back to watching the last episode of Torchwood.

At least Ryan Renolds is a better choice then Justin Timberlake!

I´m not a fan of Green Lantern so I don't really have any fixed idea of how Hal Jordan should be so I´m just hoping they don't have Ryan play it as a comedy part.

So cast Fillion as the Green Lantern, then kill him when they're done with his scenes.

WE MUST PROVE CHARLIE WRONG!

While Ryan Reynolds may garner a bit more attention than Nathan Fillion would, the success of this movie will depend entirely on the hype and advertising the studio puts into the time leading up to release. In other words, any competent actor could be cast in this role and it wouldn't matter, so long as people get excited about it. As TNG pointed out, Tobey Maguire and Christopher Reeve are excellent examples of the whole movie being more important than the star's previous body of work (or lack thereof).

I think Reynolds is a good, solid actor. He'll do fine. I'm looking forward to the movie, and I've never read a single Green Lantern comic in my life.

Yeah, but Heath really could act. Ryan Reynolds kinda just does the same thing in every movie - his roles are practically interchangeable. What he does isn't Hal Jordan. Jordan was a prick when he was young, but changed pretty quickly. Reynolds - he...just can't act mature and serious.

Looking at Reynolds' history, I don't think you can say he's played the same role everytime. His character in Defitely, Maybe was nothing like Van Wilder, which was nothing like Deadpool in Wolverine, which was nothing like... you get the point. I suspect he has the talent, but hasn't been given the opportunity. Your argument supports the idea that he is typecast, but not necessarily one-dimensional as an actor.

Hi I'm Calleja I don't read threads before blaming the forum for my lack of entertainment news upkeep :toocool:

Pffft... the thread title for that one was "3 Potential Lanterns of Sector 2814"... you know what that SCREAMS to me? Green Lantern COMIC spoilers. Where does it say it's about the movie?? I'm waiting for the whole Black Lantern Corps thing to be out and finished with before I read the whole thing in a TPB, I'm not gonna touch any GL comic threads with a 10 foot mouse cursor until I'm sure I won't get spoiled.

You guys fail for burying the news inside a stupidly named thread. :humph:
