The WoW movie got a screenwriter... guess what else the guy wrote.

Speaking with MTV News, director Sam Raimi dropped some interesting info regarding his upcoming \"WarCraft\" movie, saying that the screenwriting process has just begun:
\"We want to be really faithful to the game...to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.
\"But we would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture.\"
As far as we can tell, that's the first we've heard of Rodat being involved in the writing process for the movie. His previous screenplays include \"Saving Private Ryan\" and \"The Patriot.\" It's an interesting choice, but with a project still so early in development it's possible that it'll change by the time the final script is agreed upon. Raimi seemed pretty enthusiastic that Rodat is the right man for the job, though, saying:
\"I've never made a video game movie, but my approach would be to work with the best character writer I can find, which in this case is Robert Rodat, and tell a great character story within the fantastic environment of the world of WarCraft, while staying true to their mythology.\"

Huh. I loved Saving Private Ryan, but The Patriot was a big pile. What a difference a good director can make.

I just hope this ends up being a movie without any true villains. Two honorable cultures just stuck in a meaningless war would capture the heart of the game.

Both Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot were not the best movies if you ask me, but I am keeping an open mind, because if they did anything right in my mind, it was showing a bunch of good, individual characters thrown into war, and that really should be what the WarCraft movie ends up being about too. I think Sam will fill in any of my worries in that regard.

Just another little tidbit though. It is rumored through a few sources that they changed the movie, and are now going to base it on Arthas and his rise before going to become the Lich King. I personally hope that is not the case, as the Horde would just be getting back on its feet and thus have little if any real presence and Arthas has been covered so much in comics, books, and games that I feel he is getting a little to oversaturated, but it is the rumor right now.

This is one of the large fears that many of us Horde players have. When Metzen said the movie was going to be "from the point of view of the Alliance" and involve a "badass human" as the main character we got a little worried they were going to turn the Horde into "nameless villians". While they used to be the bad guys of WC1 and WC2, many of us were drawn to them after they changed to a much more warrior born, honorable force in LOTC and WC3.

It is interesting because even now, Thrall is voted as one of (if not the) most popular character in the setting, while Garrosh is voted as the least popular where most Horde would want a Sickly Gazelle as the new Horde leader rather then him, which kind of tells you how people want the Horde to be these days.

I just hope the Horde get some respect, even if they are not the focus.
