Scientology & Haiti: Where evil meets desperation

First, the article: http://gawker.com/5462117/scientologists-in-haiti-a-firsthand-account

Second, the reasons why they want to go there: http://gawker.com/5461231/scientologists-profiteering-in-haiti

Third, another plan: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...iti/7144621/Scientology-to-stay-in-Haiti.html

So these Scientologists went to help with Haiti relief. Somehow their plane got through (chartered by John Travolta) while other planes with real relief got turned away.

The scientologists sent down were woefully unprepared to do anything to help and more than likely did nothing but harm those we were all trying to help out. Here's a few things from the article of note.

One girl was in designer cowboy boots. I asked her if she'd brought any sturdier footwear.

\"Oh no, these'll be fine.\"
I asked another guy what he'd packed and he said he hadn't bothered to bring soap or toilet paper or food, but that he'd just \"buy whatever I need at Port-au-Prince airport.\"
They had no place to stay, and no supplies — their idea was to use the ton of money they had to buy food to distribute when they got there.
...they had no-one who spoke Creole, and they brought the weirdness of touch healing into a very superstitious society.
...the Scientologists actually caused harm — they gave food to people who were scheduled to go into surgery. That then led to complications in the operating theater.
There are reports of scientologists attempting to "touch heal" such things as crushed limbs and gangrene.

Scientology: Evil, stupid and dangerous.

I fucking knew this was going to happen the second I heard John Travolta was heading to Haiti.

Maybe they'll be 'crushed' under a 'accidentally fallen hunk of concrete'

I'm just wondering how the hell that plane was cleared to get through? Who is in charge of that kind of thing?

This calls for some investigation!

This is the first time in a long time I've actually wished death on a group of people.

Scientologists might call that religious intolerance. Maybe it is. But all I really want is for this particular group of stupid people to die. Is that too much to ask?

I guess money do talk. I mean other planes with certified help getting turn away while Scientologist can get in.

I'm appalled that they were allowed to land. I'd have been appalled if they had been turned away too. The only thing that would have satisfied me was if someone shot them down. Don't the Americans have an aircraft carrier there bringing supplies? Hell, I know two destroyers were dispatched from Halifax the day after the earthquake. They must still be around.

I thought Travolta was trying to get out of the Scientology business?

You'd think so, after the death of his son. But considering how people who try to get away from the church tend to "disappear" (especially high level ones like Travolta) I think he's been pulled back in.

The real question is if the Scientology business would let him get out of it.

That's okay. His son can take over. The dude's already on fire with his series of zombie books, anyway (Survival Guide, WWZ).

Mel's been busy with Broadway recently anyways. He just got done with a tour of The Producers, and now he's got Young Frankenstein: The Musical. BTW, go and see YF :TM if you get a chance. It's hilarious.

I just read about that. It's...really, really strange.

How so? Taking kids out of the country illegally to be adopted by rich foreigners happened here regularly... stopping that (or at least making it less obvious) was one of the things we had to do to get into the EU...

Of course it could have just been a mix-up, either way, strange it's not.

Well, the parents were informed (at least to couple of sources) and these kids who are NOT orphans but need a place was going to be taken to DR (Dominican Republic) while some of the kids who are orphans will be put up for adoptions. I can see the errors for kids who are NOT orphans, but those who are, the people should have gotten the correct papers to move them.

Or you just don't want to admit that your country just as fucked up as ours. :p

You know the danger of those being... used for non-parenting related activities?

Nope, much safer to just do that here back then... probably still is (the kids where being taken to the West).

Touch-healing? Someone needs to touch-heal the scientologists. With a fist. To the face.

Repeatedly.

Regarding the americans arrested for trying to take the kids out of the country: this is a good thing. I don't know anything about the Americans involved, but if they were stopped, I'm hopeful that anyone taking children out of the country for less noble purposes (human trafficking, etc) would be caught as well.

I hope.

More likely this is so that people can see that they're doing something about it, while they're actually getting paid off to look the other way for the more serious, organized rings...
