Most of you have probably read about Sharp's financial troubles. Recently, there was an announcement of a program to provide early retirement to scale down the workforce and they asked for volunteers. According to the article here, they originally wanted to run the program for two weeks and get about 2000 employees. They were forced to shut it down early after almost 3000 applicants.

This is exactly what happened at Sharp. Anybody who failed to get in soon enough (and possibly some who did apply) will be forced to keep their jobs.

Life imitating Dilbert 9 years after the fact. Never good when that happens.

Obviously they offered too nice a retirement package.
