Shit My Dad Says (tv show)

ok.. so, new to the 'series', only know the name on Twitter..

trying to watch the show, and it seems force-fed with oneliners and a laugh track. It's not working for me. Will Shatner is.. Shatnerizing.

I dunno, I got past the beginning and it seemed to get better, got funnier as it progressed..

Loved a fourth wall breaking at the end "Stay..with..me!" "...why can't someone do a good impersonation of me?"

Most of the humor from the twitter feed is the lack of restraint the dad uses to describe things, which you just can't do on TV. Things like, "Yeah, I'm proud you got a car, I'm just saying no one's panties are getting wet from a fucking Honda Accord," aren't gonna fly at 8:30 on CBS.

I laughed when an advert came on the other day and they called it 'Bleep My Dad Says!'

I didn't watch it because it is up against 30 Rock. Community had a running gag in its episode that was a shout out to the twitter and a take that to show: One character makes a twitter page for the strange stuff Chevy Chase's character says (called "Old White Guy Says") and when Chevy finds out he is offended until he finds out how many people follow it. Then he decides they should try to make money off of it, suggesting to a TV show....which all the other characters promptly shoot down as being a dumb idea.

I think I'll give it a few weeks. The leads seemed to be pretty good. But the couple from MAD TV, their act was a little too forced. It does have some potential, it would be hilarious on HBO/Showtime.

The delivery of the lines are incredibly stiff. It might just take a few more episodes for the actors to get comfortable.

I don't know if I'm going to stick around, though. Aside from Shatner and the guy playing his son (who I've never seen before that I can think of), the rest of the show felt like it was filled out with MadTV wash-outs. I mean, Will frigging Sasso? Ugh.

I haven't read the book that this is based on, but I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the shit his dad says was a lot more racy. So I agree. Maybe HBO or Showtime might've worked better.

The book is far superior. Heartwarming and engaging right to the bitter end.

I got a 'college theatre production' vibe from the TV show. Line-readings were definitely off and while Shatner has great comedic timing, as an 'odd-couple' kind of set up, he just wasn't cranky enough to match Mr Halperin's motif in the Twitter feed or the book.

Watched a preview on YouTube. It looks awful.
