So I'm looking for a good 360 RPG.

Looking for a good RPG to jump into for 360, but can't think of anything offhand that I haven't played. I'm maybe leaning toward a good JRPG that doesn't have some kind of asinine twist in its control/battle/leveling scheme, but I'm also in favor of games that give (asshole) dialog choices, or allow you to make evil choices.

360 RPGs I've played:
Mass effect
oblivion
fallout 3
fable 2
lost oddysey
infinite undiscovery (couldn't get into it, horrible control system)
blue dragon (can't stand the artwork/char design)

Anybody have any suggestions? I'll also take free-roam games that allow killing enemies and friends, as long as they're not GTA.

I've done a bit of research, and I'm leaning towards tales of vesperia, but I'm on the fence at the moment, having no knowledge of it prior to "it came up in a google search at the top of somebody's top 10 list"

I love Tales of Vesperia myself, it's a free-roam and real time battle system, as in there's no menu save to use items or make the CPU party members use abilities (though they're great about doing that on their own). The main character is a good person, but doesn't really have moral boundaries when it comes to dishing out punishment. His friend (and a character you never really use/get in your party) is more the goody-goody that you normally end up playing as a main character in traditional RPG's.

I was gonna come in and recommend Blue Dragon as I'm huge Dragonball/Dragon Quest fan. Though I see that's not an option.

Overlord is a fantastic game, and I heard II is even better.

Alternatively, BanjoKazooie: Nuts 'n Bolts is hilarious, but it's not really an RPG.

IIRC, it's done by mistwalker, who I'd absolutley love to support, but the "epic forehead" art style just causes some kind of subconcious agitation.

Which makes me thankful that the majority of Chrono Trigger's graphics were snes pixels!

Wahad - I enjoyed the first Overlord game, but it always seemed more of a strategy game. I'm looking for something with a little more depth/story/level grinding.

The Penny-Arcade steampunk RPG games are pretty rockin', if small fry compared to the ones you listed.
I actually have them. I beat the first, enjoyed it immensley, but I can't muster up the desire to move onto the second...yet.

I would recommend Eternal Sonata in a heart beat
This one's good too, and it's an interesting twist on the usual save-the-world RPG story.

The battle system is much like the one in Vesperia, as well. More action, less menu surfing.
Would you believe I enjoy menu surfing? It's not a necessity that a game have it, but I enjoy having an ass-load of abilities and not having to do anything except press A and have MP to use them. When you go real time, you have the chance to miss, or have the game misinterpret your action, or accidentally use shit you didn't want to.

Again, not that I'm decrying the merit of real time, just that I miss turn based combat in RPGs more and more as time passes.

I agree in the Final Fantasy case as I hate the direction they went with 12. Sonata's is a nice balance of turn-based and real time.

Just tried the Tales of Vesperia demo. Liked everything about it other than the combat, which, with no explanation from the game itself, seemed like an incredibly hectic game of "mash buttons until you win or lose."

It is at first, but the enemies will be doing too much damage and interrupting your combos to just mash buttons. Also you'll get Artes (your spells/melee attacks) that have attributes, more hits, more damage, etc, and you'll have to juggle which you want to use once you learn new ones.

Dragon Age: Origins is coming out in three weeks, although you really should get it for the PC if you can.

Lost Odyssey is a great RPG for the 360, its turn based combat and it plays a bit like The Legend of Dragoon. The story is pretty solid and the characters are pretty good.

Speaking of Legend of the Dragoon... why hasn't Sony made a sequel for that? I recall it was a pretty big hit. It's kind of like Vagrant Story... big hit, critically acclaimed, but no sequel.

I know my brother would kill for a sequel, I don't think I'd ever seen him so engrossed in an RPG before or since. I'd love another Vagrant Story, too, I liked the game quite a bit.

The Pumes

I found Star Ocean: The Last Hope to be a really enjoyable title when I first played it. If anything else it is at least worth the rent.

I didn't play this one yet. I loved Till The End of Time, though. Are they fairly similar in play style?
I personally thought it was similar, but throws in another creativity that it feels like meeting an old friend who has changed for the better. A lot of throwbacks and fan-service to the older games as well.

Side Note: The 360 game comes on three disks, whilst the PS3 one is only going to be one disk (with more content.)

Lost Oddysey was indeed awesome. I'd love to play another game like it. In a perfect world, Final Fantasy 9 is actually FF8, Lost Oddysey was FF9, and the series ends there. I swear you could see the Final Fantasy games go to shit when Hironobu Sakaguchi didn't write them.

I did a bunch of trade-ins last week, but couldn't find a new or used copy of Tales of Vesperia. I settled on putting the money toward Brutal Legend, and buying the Banjo-kazooie game that was reccomended here.

To be fair, FF8 only sucked because it was two games that got fused together. It was originally supposed to be FF8 and FF9, with one game about Squall and friends, and the other about Laguna and his friends. It got hashed together for money reasons, leaving the story in a terrible state.

Oh, and because of the fucking Junction/Draw System.
