i seriously dont say this often but i think my mom has lost her frolicking mind. she couldn't get our home phone to work tonight so she is canceling everything and going to cellphones only, she somehow magically plans to get internet for cheaper with the cellphones >_>. I seriously need to tell my dad he needs to take a stand with me. sweet zombie jesus this is insane.

Wow, that sucks. Hopefully she'll be more rational when she calms down.

No your mom is right. Cell phones are completely reliable and nothing ever goes wrong with them.

I take it you're on dial-up.

How would you reach that conclusion? Lots of companies offer phone/internet/etc bundles these days. It could be DSL, cable or fiber, though with the latter two I'd expect complaints about losing TV service as well.

ok here it goes. I have a fiber connection through comcast for internet, we have vonage for phone, and comcast for tv. she is killing the first two because she has lost her mind, but she will keep the cable tv because she can still dvr her shows that way.

the plan right now is that if she does actually kill our fiber connection I will be calling comcast right back and setting up service in my name so I can keep the fiber connection up.

I am not giving up 50 mbps fiber service for 45 dollars a month because she fucking throws a hissy fit about our phone service.

the issue is she and my dad dont know how to get their voice mails so instead of just asking how she threw all the phones in the house in a trash bag and is going to call and cancel everything except the cable tv in the morning...

.... that is a little off the plumb, I agree. Any other symptoms of a condition of somesuch? That transcends mere ignorance, IMO, unless it's combined with some sort of substance abuse

Uh....is you're mom having her...special time of the month?

Or, um, is she over forty and often complaining about the heat one second and getting the chills the next?

mom has something akin to inverse crisis disorder. big things dont bother her much, little things...WATCH OUT. her brain is wired illogically. think like being asked if you can pour the contents of a gallon of milk into a dixie cup. and without missing a beat you believe that it is completely possible. NO PROBLEM! I dont really know how to explain it otherwise.

and no sin its neither, she has already finished menopause.

I can verify that having an over the air HD antenna will still let a Tivo unit find and record shows, as I have done so in the last 48 hours. Not sure if your current DVR is Tivo or Comcast, but hey, it's a suggestion. PM me for the antenna video (I made one and posted the success on Youtube)

lol matt, you are not helping, all i really care about is the internet, I dont even watch tv.

#13

Matt²

Well I'm just saying.. I'm trying to get away from Comcast, at least at home. When your mom discovers the limits on cellphone bandwidth each month (hopefully the bill is not in the 10,000's...) I'm sure she'll regain her sanity. Temporarily. ;) ... I'm all for saving money, and for $10 of parts you can at least get your tv via an antenna.

haha, but she wants the cable tv, she doesnt want telephone service and by proxy internet for some reason...

... do they still make answering machines? Just throwing out a cheap, low-tech solution if the folks can't be bothered to figure out voice mail.

#16

Bones

Bones

we have one, the voice mail beats the machine for whatever reason  dont look at me i dont use the home phone.

My parents' answering machine can be set to pick up after two rings, I presume most have the same feature, if that's a viable time frame.

ok more background info, i tried to explain how easy it is to get the voice mails, she wouldn't have any part of it, instead she just freaked and I went back to my office and locked the door for the night >_>

all they have to do is dial one, but she wouldnt have it lol

Was gonna say... I've done ridiculous, drastic shit like that during a really terrible one.

I hate voicemail; not because I don't know how to use it. It's because anyone and everyone over age 45 has no clue how to fucking set it up.

I work for Verizon. Quite literally half of my job involves setting up voicemail for old people who think the phone runs on voodoo.

Very simple, my man: move out. When you're living on your own, YOU decide the internets!

She's clearly been taken over by mind slugs. The most humane thing you can do for her is shoot her in the head multiple times. That solves both problems.

the best part is I think she completely forgot what she was so pissed about, because here i sit and we still have internet service O_O....and phone service....actually i am pretty sure the phones are back where they were last night before the throwdown @_@

Old people think everything runs on voodoo anymore. Explaining to my granny how to turn on my damn TV takes like 40 minutes.

I have a great-uncle who visits my folks sometimes. He complained that he couldn't turn on the TV, and went into a rant about how complex things are, how confusing technology is, etc.

Then I pointed to the giant red "POWER" button at the top of the remote.

For your vonage service you dial *123 to access voicemail then input your voicemail pin number. If you need help getting the device online, lemme know

I am aware, I tried to explain to them how it works but they would not listen to me, so now all the telecommunications are in my name, which is fine. (ie we still have everything, but its in my name so its my problem to deal with and pay for.
