Dave (or Jay),

Why do stoplights in Japan use blue instead of green for their go signal? Just curious. :)

Japan usually uses red-yellow-green like everyone else, but there's a growing push for blue to be used in place of green on all stop lights due to the rise in red/green color blindness. The utilization of blue means that the people with this affliction can still drive without fear of causing or getting into an accident.

They recently converted a few intersections into roundabouts here recently by tearing out the stop signs and plunking a circular obstacle in the middle. They work...poorly. The few purpose-built roundabouts around here work much better by virtue of the fact that they are actually round instead of square.
