I doubt Activision would dump them like that, considering how they basically print money for Activision. However, it's entirely possible that somebody on Infinity Ward's end was up to money laundering or something. Wouldn't be the first game studio to fall from that.
The drinking is understandable, all things considered.
Assuming this isn't fake, or a stunt or something, I have to wonder what the precise reason is for it. Ashburner - what other developer has gone into money laundering? I'm just curious, since it's news to me.

Maybe Kotick heard they were having fun playing with the paper clips and stuff, and decided for the big Time Out?

Bobby Kotick is still the biggest cum guzzling fuckstick in the gaming industry.
Also, grass is green.

yeah i hope he'll build a new studio, all IW quits and joins him. This way, maybe, they'll be able to build a single player mode who lasts longer than 5 hours.
I'm curious what this is all about. At this point I can't really imagine what he/they did that got them canned. I can only assume it's not something trivial as IW is/was basically printing money for Activision.

I know the guys behind the Stargate MMO are currently suing their CEO because he put the company on the hook for a debt he made regarding funds transferred to another company he owned. I think it almost bankrupted them. There is also that whole story behind the guy who made the Quizmodo (involving the Mafia, crashed Ferrari's, and suicide) and the guy who was "making" the Phantom (which never got off the ground).
Activision Blizzard Inc. said it expects two senior executives at the studio that makes its top- selling “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” video-game to leave amid an internal investigation of insubordination.
