Best known as a sex positive educator, Sue Johanson hosted a number of sex education shows on Canadian television and radio. She talked about sex in a frank, open manner. I remember watching her back in the 90s and 2000s. It was always funny when she made a guest appearance on talk shows. The hosts would be visibly uncomfortable because she didn't mince words on any subject.
She was also incredibly positive and supportive of the LGBTQ community, which was surprising for the time.
Sue was an amazing person and a fabulous educator. She actually came out to BC in the mid-90's and one of her stops was my school. The kids in grade 4 & 5 got sessions for sure, and possibly younger, as did the parents of all the kids. And for that I am grateful. It got them used to the idea of their kids getting sex ed, so there was little push back.
But ya, her death is a significant loss. She did excellent work.
