Superman going to renounce his U.S. Citizenship!

Maybe I can get my job back, that alien bastard.

It is hard to stand for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" when no one else in America does.

The more I think about this, the weirder it seems. Does Clark Kent have a separate citizenship status from Superman? Does that mean Superman went through naturalization and got a SSN, etc.? Is Superman going to still hang around the US a lot, since Kent works in Metropolis still, and essentially rescue people on a green card?

Son, you be overthinking this.

Sir, are you suggesting that Superman comics are mindless entertainment and that their apparent messages are merely superficial and not well thought-out? Oops, I'm still thinking about it. Damn it.

Good luck to any border patrol wishing to stop him from coming and going as he damn well pleases.

Clearly we should build a giant kryptonite fence along the border.

Eh, he'll go back after four episodes.
And then he'll... ADOPT A BABY/CHANGE SEX/DIE/BECOME ULTRA-JESUS/PUNCH HITLER/YOUR SHOCKING EVENT HERE!

The writers are underthinking it.

Hmmm, do you think they'll deport him?

Hmmm, do you think they'll deport him?
How? I know you could get Krytonite in every 7-11 store (my friend personal joke since practically every villain has access to it one form or another)

I think it's just a showy thing for him to do, but considering the story as presented in the article, it makes sense.

Clark Kent should still be a citizen--no one knows he's Superman.

"Superman" has no citizenship to renounce.

Really it just seems to be like Superman's take on the idea of going global like Batman has.

It looks a lot more like "Hey! Lets get Superman in the news and sell some more comics!"

Which is fine but still... meh. He's always acted globally, not much will change.

I dunno, it makes sense. DC Comics has had countries with Anti-U.S. sentiments for decades and even introduced the "Freedom of Power" Treaty a couple of years back. Ploy to get headlines? Definitely. Valid plot development? Also yes.

Meh. I give it a year.

#18

Jiarn

Give what a year? I think this was a good move too. His actions were reflecting against the U.S. when they had nothing to do with his decisions. This was a good move.

I just mean the whole "big news! major character change! nothing will ever be the same again!" stuff. Like, when they had those hundreds of thousands of Kryptonians on Earth? Already gone.

Paul Cornell I joyfully await the day when comics fans would prefer to talk about the story rather than the controversy.

Ed Brubaker To be fair, Superman never punched Hitler.

I'm just glad that he's finally back in Action Comics. It's also funny considering the point of his awful walkabout.

Wait, how did he get citizenship without a birth certificate... he isn't even black.

#22

Jiarn

Most likely made an honorary citizen due to special circumstances.

He used his SUPER-FORGING powers to make a Certificate of Live Birth. Which is not the same thing as a Birth Certificate.

Honestly, especially if it lets them write some more interesting stuff, the comic-logic to the idea seems pretty clear. Superman considering the implications of his intervention tends to be more interesting then him saving the day from giant robots again (that said, his walk-about was just stupid).

I can understand Clark Kent having a birth certificate because he had to blend in, big thanks to Ma and Pa Kent. But why would Superman need citizenship? Who would even ask? It's a secret identity. Like Batman. Who has asked Batman to prove citizenship? I think it's assumed that Superman helps whoever is in need. Why would America claim him solely as their own?

An alien superhero renouncing "citizenship" in a country so he can feel justified in acting global? That's fine.
Anything related to Canada? Now that's just silly.

Might want to read my post a couple up there.
