The last couple days, my Surface Pro has been randomly creating a magnification window when I tap on links on the web rather than navigating the browser to those links. It does this when I tap on the touch screen, but not when I use a mouse or the Surface pen. It did not do this before the other day. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro and use Chrome. As far as I can tell, the same issue does not occur in Firefox. Google gave me instructions to disable magnification from the system settings, but I found this was already disabled. Anyone know how I can disable this? Here are some screenshots of it occurring.
Nope. Windows Magnifier opens as something completely different.

Huh. When I search for pictures demonstrating Magnifier in action, they pretty much look just like that.

I've had this kind of thing happen in Chrome on my Android phone, and it's usually from a tap that's "close" to more than one link. So it's magnifying it to ensure that you can "more clearly" click on the thing you actually want to click on. Given that my fingers and thumbs are large, this is a good feature on a phone.
So when the magnification comes up, can you click on the link inside of the magnification?
Also, does it happen even in "non-crowded" links? Like if there's only one link surrounded by a lot of normal text? For example, does this link misbehave? Google!

Just thought I'd update that I haven't seen this happen in a few days now. It turned itself off as mysteriously as it turned itself on. It did seem to work with crowded links the way you described, @Eriol, but Windows Magnifier was still always turned off. Maybe this was some sort of glitched that was activated and deactivated through a series of updates?

David,
I'll bet it's a function of Chrome, not windows. "Crowded links" is something it does to help you in the touch interface, so it's kind of a good thing. Maybe annoying sometimes, but a lot of the time on my phone, it has saved me mis-clicks (mis-touch? whatever).

Here's something you wouldn't expect.
(Yes I know but I wasn't going to start a whole new thread for this)
