I want to say something because his name has been so prominent in my life, even though I've never seen the Globetrotters in person. I guess that in itself can be a testament to his legacy.

I saw them in person, but it was after the glory days of Gilligan's Isle, Scooby-Doo, and the rest.

I loved the Globetrotters as a kid. Never got to see them in person, but they were a pretty big part of a 1970s childhood. RIP Meadowlark.

When he left the Globetrotters, he formed a team called the Bucketeers. I saw that team with him and Marques Haynes at the WVU Coliseum in the early 80s.

I can't ever hear his name without also hearing this song.

It always amazed me how fucking good he was. Half court hook shots? No problem. The funniest thing is, the Globetrotters were formed because it was the only place blacks could play basketball. They were barred from playing in the NBA due to their race. Looking at that and football now just seems stupid.
