Tesla Coils and Mjolnir.

So, I came up with the idea of an awesome cosplay/crime fighting implement: making a replica of Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, and fitting a tesla coil inside for an awesome light shot/several thousand volts of pain for some unlucky criminal who gets whalloped upside the head with it.

Unfortunately, I'm not a physicist (I are a biologist), so I have very little idea how large it would be/how much power it would require/how to build it. Is this idea feasible (if not a terribly bright idea)?

You'd still need a way to get power into it... and you'd only have one shot unless you carried a way to recharge it with you. You'd also probably have accidental discharges long before you needed it to work.

Could sure make for some great cosplay photos.

The trouble with trying to put that much energy into that small of a volume is that it is waiting to happen. Current technology would probably have a really hard time doing that with anything approximating safety.

If he could keep the thing at a sub-zero temperature constant, he could be able to find a super conductive material to do it with. The problem is that Super Conductors (as we can make them today) need to be kept cold or they stop working.

You could also modify a taser to reside inside the hammer head, with a trigger switch on the handle with the hammer head itself being alternating conductors.

Actually, the Tesla coil in your car emits far less than a lethal voltage. If you could insulate the handle, you could easily carry around your little light display, providing you had a 12 volt energy source. You could hide a 12 volt motorcycle battery (lighter gravometric weight, IDK if the coil would still work, but the battery is very light) under your cape and have enough juice for at least a few photos, maybe more. Although the 12 volts is transformed into a higher jolt by the coil, the reaction still requires a steady supply of juice.

I would probably go with a small, battery powered light instead.

Have you ever seen that kind of wrapping paper that looks metallic on one side, but is semi-transparent from the other side? You could make the head of Mjolnir out of that, and rig a camera flash into it. Put a reflective half globe of aluminum foil or something opposite of the flash to get good light dispersal, and you just might get something super awesome. Of course, the hard part would be triggering the light. A quick check on eBay shows you can get a cheap flash and remote trigger for about 30-40 bucks, depending on if the seller offers free shipping. Hmmm, I wonder if I have any wrapping paper lying around?...

Make it easier and attach a taser to it. I can just picture some geek cop with a taser taped to a sledgehammer head.

Well, my idea works, if not as impressively as a tesla coil would. Dunno if it would be worth the time and money, though. Anyway, here's a video of my crude proof-of-concept.
