Yesterday Valve released an update to Team Fortress 2:
"Added items submitted to the Contribute! site by members of the community
Submit your own creations! http://www.teamfortress.com/contribute/ "

There was also a blog post "Nice goin', pardner" that didn't really explain what was updated.

Well, according to the TF2 Wiki, the March 18, 2010 Patch contained three new weapons and 9 new pieces of headgear.

* Pain Train – Soldier, Demoman - A club with a rail spike attached to the end, and it allows Soliders and Demos to count double when capturing points (like a Scout) but makes them take 10% more damage from bullets.
* Homewrecker – Pyro - A sledge hammer does double damage to buildings, but only 75% damage to players.
* Dalokohs Bar – Heavy - heals 50 points of damage, and gives a 50 point increase to max health for 30 seconds. (Shokalad is Russian for chocolate)

The new hats are:

Scout - Troublemaker's Tossle Cap (a baggy knit winter hat)
Soldier - Killer's Kabuto (a Japanese helmet)
Pyro - Triboniophorus Tyrannus ("Triboniophorus is a type of green slug native to Australia" and it jiggles as the Pyro moves)

Demoman - Hustler's Hallmark (a feathered pimp hat)
Heavy Hound Dog (Elvis style pompadour)
Engineer - Hotrod (a welding mask with flame design)
Sniper - Shooter's Sola Topi (a pith helmet)
Spy - Magistrate's Mullet (a powdered wig)
Medic - Physician's Procedure Mask

Another update today made small changes:
"Updated the new community-built hats so they can be crafted
Updated the Camera Beard and Medic Mask so they can be crafted as hats"

The sledgehammer is pretty stupid, since the flamethrower is super-effective against buildings anyway. I mean, burn it down in 1.5 seconds or sledgehammer it to death in 1 second... gee...

Dalokohs Bar looks like a possible alternative to the Sandvich, though I don't use the Sandvich much myself so I probably won't use Dalokohs Bar much either

Pain Train might be interesting, combining the aerial mobility of Soldiers and Demos with fast caps. Rocket jump onto the point and blitz-cap it, maybe. The problem is it's competing with the Equalizer and the Eyelander for that melee spot, and those are two great weapons.

All in all, the only one I'd consider using seriously would be the Pain Train.

Oh, and I can't get a hat to save my life.

I'm guessing the only user-generated weapons we'll ever see in an official update will be underpowered and/or highly situational.

The Homewrecker CAN take out buildings at like double the speed of the flamethrower, so it's not highly situtational. In fact, it's less situational than the Axestinguisher because your A.) Not likely to miss a building with your swing and B.) It still does more damage to players who aren't on fire.

Ummm, okay. If you say so.

It may just be me, but I can never seem to hit someone with the damn Axestinguisher when they are on fire. I'd rather an unlockable that I'd actually be able to use to one that I can't. It's the same reason I don't use the Direct Hit: I can't hit with the god damn thing because I can't lead well with delayed projectiles.
