Oh like they can't simply get a copy from some other store. I mean in all my years of gaming I have only pre-ordered a few games and it was never necessary. If one was there was always another store I could hit up just a few minutes away. Besides a real hardcore gamer wouldn't be shopping at GameStop unless it was for simple convenience of having one around every corner. Besides any real gamer would know that GameStops pre-orders are barely worth the time. To often they either they take too many pre-orders order or they simply give your copy to a friend and claim it was a mistake.
Or if someone steals 100 copies from a store.

Recently I've noticed that all the stuff that's offered as "exclusives" for preorder at Gamestop become available as DLC if you just wait long enough.
Recent example is Juggernaut in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I'm pretty sure he'd fight exactly like the Hulk anyway, so I haven't bothered with him.
