So the bioware page has been hosting a countdown for the last week to an "epic community event". Naturally I'm pretty excited about this being a rampant bioware whore.

The countdown hit zero today and they unveiled the Bioware Bazaar, funky online competition, lots of nice swag etc etc. Only problem is its only available to 50 US states.

Epic community event my ass.

Im fairly disappointed but christ on a bike check out the bioware forums and witness the true Nerd rage, I reckon you could harness those posts as a form of perpetual energy.

That is pretty cool. It is kinda sucks that is it only 50 stats (maybe due to international laws and such) but I'm sure someone can ship it to you ;)

Bioware's been annoying me lately with their paid DLC spree, so I'm not too bothered about not participating in their bazaar. Just a bit annoyed though, mind you, not as annoyed as I am with, say, Ubisoft. But I'm not too bothered.

Oh who am I kidding, I wanna play. :(

Ooh i do have an aunt in texas...

....To win something i would have to play a Bioware game? ....no thanks.
But....but Bioware :(

Jesus Christ! That thread started 2 hours ago and is 28 pages!!
Like I said, I reckon its powering a good portion of the internet with its vitriol, snagged a few new facepalm pics though

Thanks hometown based company (Edmonton) who's contest excludes your own community (actual community, not online).

If I win anything I'll give it here as a random prize to anyone that does not live in the US or is from New York or Florida.

My post there:

I currently have 2220 points. I will put all of my points and any give to me by people clicking

http://social.bioware.com/brc/277613

to win one of the laptops (M11x AlienWare Laptops). If I win it I will not keep it but will GIVE IT to someone who is not eligible due to their location.

For the record, my full and real name is David Nihsen and I live in Omaha, Nebraska. I don't want you guys to think I'm trying to pull a fast one or **** for points.

I think this is a crap move pulled on all those who don't live in the \"correct\" 48 states.

Not sure about the rules behind linking sites here because I don't come here that much, but if you Google \"\"dave nihsen\" forum\" you'll have my little home. I'm not trying to drive traffic there, but it's really the best place to reach me.

If I win it then someone outside the US (or in New York or Florida) will get it through a random drawing.

Again, I will not charge for anything including postage, shipping, whatever. And I'll ship it anywhere. Laugh at me if you want, participate if you want or just berate me verbally. But I'm putting my information out there to help out the COMMUNITY.

I don't think anyone caught it, though. It was too close to the end of a page. Page 49. Oy.

Nice move Dave. Classy.

Anyways, I wish I could donate you my 5000 or so points.
You know I'll do it, too.

Honestly, it isn't Bioware's fault. It had to do with laws and shit. Like, if the rules of the contest say that you have to own a Bioware game to participate, then some states have laws against it, because they don't allow contests that require a good to be purchased to enter. (I think Canada might have that law too?). Of course, if one of the rules does say that you need to own a Bioware game to participate, blech anyways.

I know that's why some contests in WoW aren't across all states, since you need to own WoW to actually be able to participate.

Yeah, I think most of the uproar there comes from the COUNTDOWN TO AN EPIC COMMUNITY EVENT for the past 5 days that gave no indication that a vast portion of their community isn't eligible for.

I agree. However, they should have spelled that out instead of the way they did it. Again, it was a good idea that they went about the incorrect way.

They really hyped it up and then pulled the rug out from under a HUGE bunch of their users. I'm willing to at least attempt to do something to help one of them out.

It doesn't look like it's going to get any traction over there. Too bad. Hope I don't get any phone calls at home tonight. I am in the phone book.

What frankie said, had this all been spelled out as US only, that would be a 2 page thread instead of the....53 page and counting monstrosity

I don't like the fact at all they are only catering to the Americans. This is quite the clusterfuck on their behalf.

I love all the, "I use to be part of the community...now I'm just an or a ________" banners that are littering the Bioware forums. Good stuff.

The New Yorker, Floridian and Alaskan ones get me the most.

I have a nice fat palm and a nice fat face for you bioware.

I vote we take Wolverine away from Alberta, just for a little while.

I agree the uproar is entirely valid but that's marketing for you, they don't care if it backfires on a small percentage. I'm sure they've calculated that 'disgruntled nerd' loss factor, though it is looking like a huuuuuge factor by that thread page count.

There was nearly as big an uprising when L4D2 was announced a mere 8 months after L4D1 was released, including a huge boycott forming. It was almost entirely dead when the game actually hit. I'm suspecting Bioware will have a similar outcome, when it comes time to deal with it's over-entitled fan base.

Fuck, if they actually cared about the fan base, they'd have released Jade Empire 2 a long time ago!

An official response

Hi everyone -

The BioWare Bazaar was launched this week as the start of a year-long celebration around BioWare’s 15th anniversary.

We recognize that BioWare has a global community, and the Bazaar this week was originally intended to be an international event to reflect our truly global fanbase. Unfortunately, we encountered some last-minute legal complications around how contests can be structured in different parts of the world that prevented us from including all territories in this first event, even though that was our original goal. And for that, we sincerely apologize – our goal with this sort of celebration is to show all our fans worldwide how much we appreciate your support!

BioWare definitely really values all members of our world-wide Community, no matter where you live. Accordingly, in the coming weeks, we will be announcing details about future events specifically for fans living in those territories which were excluded from participating in the first BioWare Bazaar. The future events will be a bit different from the first Bazaar in how they’re set up and structured, but our goal is to feature the same caliber of awesome prizes and great BioWare collectibles. We’ll announce more details in the coming weeks :)

The reception from those fans who have been able to take part in this first event has been incredible – thank you for participating! - and we’re looking forward to future events where we can enable fans from additional territories to also join in the fun.

Thank you all for your continued and ongoing support and participation in the BioWare Community – we really appreciate all your support over the past 15 years, and the future will be even brighter!

Sincerely,

Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk
Co-founders, BioWare
I still find it unlikely these legal wranglings suddenly caused them to change there plans at the very last minute, and I'mm narked at billing viral marketing as an "epic community event"

But I'm glad for the apology and attempt at reparations

Not only that, but I'm from Edmonton, have visited the God damn offices and know about 3 people that work there. Next time I see friggin' one of em, he's got lots of 'splainin' to do.
