I just picked this up a few days ago, and holy shit. It's not as funny/mocking as the first album, but Brendon Small kicked it up a notch or two with this album.
Murmaider II: The Water God, The Cyborg Slavers, Burn The Earth, and Comet Song are all great. The album's only twelve songs long, but it's more "epic" and it seems like it was more trying to be an actual band than a band from a show.

Cyborg Slayers, Black Fire Upon Us, Symmetry, and The Gears are all amazing. The entire album is incredible, but those four stand out.
Like you said... It's not as "fun" as the first one, but it's about a hundred times more brutal. Think it's more to do with Small singing different than anything else, really.

I really liked the first one, and am excited to check this out.
