The Entertainment Industry Mini-Rant Thread

This is the place for all those little outrages and indignities inflicted upon us by Hollywood and the like that would not otherwise be able to carry a thread of their own...

I'll start with Tim and Eric. I've only ever seen about 45 seconds of their show on Adult Swim, and it was enough to want to see those two idiots beaten within an inch of their talentless lives. I mean a guy shitting all over himself in the middle of his wedding? Really? That's what passes for humor to you? Hard to say what's worse, the fact that they thought it was funny enough to put on TV, or the guy at the network who gave it the go-ahead to put it on TV.

Another Big Momma Movie? You have to be kidding me. I thought Robot Chicken finally killed that genre off with Giant Fat Black Lady Who's Really a Black Man in a Really Big Fat Suit. Who besides Martin Lawrence and his accountants thought that the world was longing for another Big Momma movie?

And don't start with the same old "you don't have to watch" bullshit. It's too late for that. Someone already watched. and this was the result. We have to stop encouraging them. The crap needs to be exposed for the crap that it is, so the next piece of garbage isn't ever produced for us to not watch.

I'm as stumped as you are about the whole Tim and Eric thing. Are there really THAT many fucking retarded stoners that watch them? Because Adult Swim sure does love to keep giving those two morons shows.

Is it just me or is Cartoon Network becoming a little like FOX in this regard? Stupid shows continue on while good shows get canceled (I liked Unnatural History, among other shows that went away too quickly.)

Somewhere along the line Adult Swim realized their biggest demographic was potheads. The result? Tim and Eric, 12oz Mouse, Tom Goes to Mayor and other 15 minute shows that make you dumber for having watched them.

A friend of mine went to see "Black Swan". One of the previews was the new "Big Mamma" movie. Really? Did they think that the people watching "Black Swan" were their target demographic?

And Tim & Eric sucks. Just sucks.

Welcome to popular culture. Where bad is good, and terrible makes millions. It does not matter if the media is Film, Music, or TV... If it is popular it tends to be bad.

There's a difference between bad and too revolting for words. Is there anyone not on mind-altering substances who thinks actually showing people ingesting fecal matter or shitting all over themselves is funny? (As opposed to other diarrhea jokes where it's implied but not actually shown)

Thing is, these last couple months have been weird, with quality films like Black Swan and True Grit beating out the garbage.

Tim & Eric has its little niche audience that finds it funny. It's not like it's pulling Two and a Half Men numbers. It makes me laugh and I just enjoy the audacity and bizarreness of it most of the time. And I haven't even watched it intoxicated in any way yet!

I think Tim & Eric is comedy for comedians judging from how many comics absolutely love them and their show. I dig the show and have had some of my hardest laughs at Uncle Muscles and many of the commercials.

Hamburgers and hotdogs too, I want to have a barbeque.

My rant will be that I am tired of seeing that diaper ad where the animated babies are having a crap off in their diapers.

My concerns were justified. The new Big Momma movie rates a big, fat ZERO on Rotten Tomatoes. The question on everyone's lips, critics and community alike, is "WHY?"

A few are using this as rationalization for continued movie piracy. When we plunk down our hard-earned money for movie tickets and DVDs, this is how Hollywood spends that money. But that's another thread (one we already have, BTW).

I cannot stand Tim and Eric. They are worse than that halfassed machinima series - "Xavier, Renegade Angel", which was just retarded. I think you're right that it's comedy for other comedians. It's not actually funny, it's just bizarre and revolting, which apparently comedians adore - which explains all the posthumous love for Andy Kaufman.

As for adult swim... their best original series is Metalocalypse. I really wish Archer was on Adult Swim, I think it would benefit both. Now that Futurama isn't on it anymore, I have been watching less. (I think at this point I've seen everything Seth MacFarlane's ever made)

GOD, what the actual fuck is up with that? How did the moron who came up with that ad not get thrown off the parking garage?

I'd rather play in a burning building than watch Tim & Eric. It makes my brain hurt and makes me worry about the people I know who love the show.

Really? Better than the Venture Brothers? I love Metalocalypse, but I'd still rate it second to VB.

Yes, and I loves me some Robot Chicken too. I have a hard time picking one of those 3 shows as the best.

My mini-rant: reality trash. How in the fuck are shows like "Housewives of _______" and "Jersey Shore" as popular as they are? What the fuck is wrong with people?

I think we've hit the TV Event Horizon. Where it's near impossible to produce anything but reality shows and crime procedurals.

I think it's just shit like this that lets these shows thrive. They're cheap to produce and even cheaper to advertise because all you need is a bunch of people to gather around and say "holy shit, there's a show called Jersey Shore about a bunch of assholes! Who could ever watch that crap?" and of course the answer is everyone who just found out about it and decided to check it out to see if it's really as bad as they say.

Next thing you know it's been on the air longer than Firefly, then Arrested Development, Then Venture Bros., then MASH.
